which way does sound like?

I recently picked up a set of Titleist 704's at a big sale for $75. I've been hitting them well off the tee as well as out of the light rough. What's odd is I'm having trouble from the fairway. I seem to miss right with them quite a bit. I've also notice that I've put a few scratches out on the toe portion of the sole as well as when mud gets on them, it prodomitily out on the toe.

I'm wondering if this an indicator of possibly needing them bent upright or flat?

Best way to check this out. Put electrical tape on the sole. Take a few swing on a hard non-abrasive surface (maye a board) to determine where the impact marks are. If the contact marks are closer to the toe, the club is too flat and need to be bent upright. Conversely if the contact mark are closer to the heel, the club is too upright and need to be bent flatter. That is how the fitter determine the lie angle that is best for you...

One last comment, flat lie favor fades and upright favor draws.

Thanks. I have noticed I've been able to fade these easier than my previous irons. I thought it was just DG's vs. NSpro's but could be the lie angles. I used to hit a little draw with my old irons and these are not drawing at all unless I really try to.

To sum up all the advice. If the sole marks favor the toe and your ball is moving right (exactly what happens) the clubs are to flat (toe down) and must be made more upright (toe up). To do it properly, have each club tested (and I did say each club) then bent as needed.

 

If someone tells you that hitting the ground causes the face to open or close, then run away from them as fast as you can. The ball is long gone from the face before the club hits the ground (unless a swing sucks big time). Yes the ground mark can give information but that is all.

Your irons are too flat and need to be bent upright. A flat lie angle usually starts the ball farther off to the right where as and upright lie angle usually starts the ball of to the left.
