I'm Going Lefty

I decided to try something new with putting. I putt left hand low and usually feel good about my putting through out a round. My avg. putt per hole is 1.91 and putts per gir is 2.48. Obviously can/need to get better especially the second stat. I spend most of my range days on the putting green to work on my stroke, mostly working on starting my ball on the right line at this point. Any ways, I decided to look at going left handed. Not sure what brought about this experiment at all haha.

So what did I do? I saw and bought a Superstroke Fatso by Bruce Sizemore :). Have always wanted to try one and even though it may not be the prettiest looking putter, I feel it will be a good experiment. So for now I have some pictures, and I thought I would throw a review in here and there once I get used to putting LH.

Looks: well like I said, some may think it's beautiful, some may just think its god awful looking. Me? I am in the middle. While big and clunky, it's not the worst looking putter that I have seen. I like the sightline on it and the DCF face looks pretty cool and really interested on how it will react with the ball. The putter comes with the original SS Grip. Tacky and comfy, but ever sine changing to the bigger Mid-Slim 2.0/3.0 the smaller/skinnier grip feels weird and may not stick around. Head cover is really nice though. Magnet closure and really nice material on the inside. Sets up to the ball nicely, and the weight is perfect. If the LH doesn't work out, I may be tempted to try and find a RH one.

Alignmen: Lining up this putter is a so easy. While it doesn't have a bunch of different sight lines, it seemed as if the middle sight line with the gaps sort of made a nice frame and I was getting good contact on the ball. Hitting most of my putts in the middle of the face.

Feel: Feel is subjective, but I did like the feel of it. It was not hard rock firm, but wasn't insert soft. it had a nice crisp feel to it with a nice tap sound when hit in the center, and a louder ping when hit off center.

Performances: This is obviously where it might be a little challenging for me to see what was the putter and what was me doing something new. First off, putting left handed felt pretty natural to me. I am right eye dominant and I think having my dominant eye out in front was helping me with seeing break and my distance control was phenomenal today. I holed a lot more putts from 5-10 feet and on two putts that were well away from the hole, i lagged to tap in range (which i found out is not as second nature lefty as it is righty since I yanked one of those and missed hahaha). Putter seemed to have a little more loft on it than others that I have used so that was a little weird. But until I get more comfortable with lefty putting, I can't really base performance on putter just yet.The roll on the ball was very good as well. just as good if not a bit better than my betti (could have been the increased loft or could have been the milling), but I definitely didn't notice as much skidding as usual and I didn't have to hit as hard for certain lengths as the ball seemed to "travel" better if that makes sense.

That is all for now, I will update as I can. Thanks for reading and ask if you have questions.

ok so was able to get out for 9 today instead of going to the putting green. I figured got some time to put practice into play for everything else I would just wing it to see if I could even putt lefty. Since I am not a "natural" lefty putter I know this review isn't 100% reliable, but I am hoping to help on things that doesn't deal with me being a good putter or not. OP is edited with today's info

I am also right handed and play lefty. I have no idea which eye is dominant. how do you tell?

Point at something off in the distance with your finger. Close one eye at a time and whatever eye is open when your finger is actually pointing at the object instead of to the left or right is your dominate eye. Fwiw I'm left handed and used to putt righty. I'm equally as bad either way.

wth...... I thought I was the only one who tried this....im still thinking of switching permanently.....I can putt either way almost equally...but can see the line while looking "down the line" better lefty..im left eye dominate so it makes no sense....

My brother who is a lefty bought a right handed putter because he putted so well with our old man's putter.

It lasted a week before he went back to putting lefty. He is right hand dominant.

My brothers problem with it was that he had no distance control on longer putts. He probably could've gotten used to it but I guess he didn't have the patience.

I hope it works for you. If you're getting similar stats then it may be easier to improve.

did you start righty at all then go lefty or just always putt left? just wondering what kind of transition you experienced or anything
[/quote]

Sorry for the long delay. I started out putting right handed. I started left handed when I got to college and one of my scratch friends on the team let me try his left handed putter and I seemed to do better with it. He was also right handed, played right handed, but putts left handed. Took a little getting used to. I still think I could putt right handed without much difficulty. I actually prefer it on the shorter putts, inside of 3-4 feet, to step up and knock those in with the back of the putter. Was easier before I switched to the del mar with the curved back LOL!

I have been thinking about doing this for a while. Even bought a Yes! LH putter head to give a go. Probably going to hit up the local golfsmith soon to get a LH double bend shaft for it and then see what happens. I am right handed in almost everything. I bowl both right and left handed. For me with putting, I seem to have a hitch in my stroke when I putt right handed. Almost like I am trying to hard to keep the putter on line. When I took a couple strokes with my buddies LH putter it felt smoother.

Anybody have an idea why when I point with my RH I seem to be right eye dominant, but when pointing with my left hand, my left eye takes over?

It's an illusion. You lined the left hand up wrong from the beginning with your left eye. When you switched to the right, it made you seem off. It fooled me at first until I tried several times with both eyes.

I have toyed with it for years, my wife is lefthanded and we have the same putter.

I think there may be less distortion of your sightline because with my dominant eye(right) I am not looking through my nose. I can do many things sort of well lefthanded. I could shoot foul shots back in the day, I use both hands for a computer mouse equally well and played hockey lefthanded.
