You See Adam Scotts New Putting Routine? This is What He Was Doing - AimPoint Express - Video Inside

Everyone has been talking about Adam Scotts new putting routine where he saddles his ball and then puts up a spock like hand gesture behind his ball.

well....his doing the Aimpoint Express method of reading greens. Its a easy and simplified version of Aimpoint. I am sure we got some Aimpoint students here.

Oh yea tons of Aimpoint and Aimpoint Express threads here. I can't vouch for it enough if for the simple fact of having a system in place to read greens. Its really easy to learn, I took one lesson and was off and running.

I am very interested in the aimpoint express. I heard adam scotts friend name malone taught him rather quickly. seems very easy to learn.

Care to share some details about aimpoint express?

I have taken the mid read class with chart. I seen this and read some so didn't know much about what I was doing but measured slope used that amount of finger got laughed at and was pretty accurate. Speed is the key for the line but seems to work pretty good

The key is to learn how to judge the slope percentage. once u can do that regularly u can do aimpoint with ease

Short version.

You [i]feel[/i] the slope with your feet at the midpoint also behind the ball and assign a value of 1-5, based on the feeling in your feet from the slope. Then you use your fingers, holding up 1-5 and leaving your dominant eye open to find your Aimpoint. There is obviously more you learn in the hour or so clinic in regards to downhill and uphill putts, etc.

So true, the first time your on a green and you hold up 2 fingers to line up your putt you feel like a doofus. Amazingly it is really, really accurate provided you have a stroke that can get the ball on line with the correct speed. Still feel funny playing as a single and getting to the 1st green with 3 people who know nothing about me, it is a good conversation starter though.

Here is my question though do u hold your arm all the way extended? I seen Adam also hold his arm like halfway extended. Is that dude to uphill down hill etc?

That's part of the calibration process you get when taking a lesson. You can figure it out yourself, but it may take a bit. Same deal with how far to stand in front of the ball when holding up the fingers. All speed related.

So you you just find and mark different slop percentages in the backyard and just stand on them for a while to get use to what a certain percentage feels like or is there a faster way? Can you feel much difference in 1%?

Usually you extend your arm and move away from the ball the faster the Greens. Due to the fast Greens at a PGA Tournament you can adjust by folding your arm.

1% slope ist the hardest to determine, but the 1% difference between a 2 % and a 3% slope is easy to discern.
For practicing slope reading I use the Clinometer App on my iPhone.

He's currently 18th in Strokes Gained Putting for the season so I'd say yes this has definitely helped him become a good putter. http://www.pgatour.com/stats/stat.02564.html
