Cancun golf courses

Recommended Posts

I'm going to Cancun in a couple of weeks, can any one recommend me some courses to play. I've looked online but the sites aren't the best to be honest. I'm thinking about the Nicklaus course. I also wouldn't mind playing mayakoba but I'm not sure on travel. I played at playa del Carmen when I stayed there and passed mayakoba. Wish I'd played it then.

This was about 10 years ago, so my memory is a little fuzzy about it..but I played at the Hilton golf course in Cancun and remember thinking it was nice. Plus there were crocodiles all over,

Meh. Moon Palace was OK, but way overpriced. I believe I paid $250 years ago. Are you looking for courses near the hotel strup, or are you willing to travel down to Playa del Carmen? The course at the Iberostar resorts, Playa Paraiso, is top notch.

Moon Palace was ok if you're playing it for free as part of your stay and play package. I thought the Riviera Cancun was a better course although it didn't have the same all inclusive deal you get at Moon Palace.

Playa Mujeres is supposed to be the best course in Cancun, but I didn't play it.

Pok a pok or whatever its called looked like a total dog track from the road the few times I drove by.

Iberestar Cancun looked nothing special and has a big time gator problem.

I just played Mayakoba last week. Don't expect to get many ocean views, but the course is in fantastic shape. I enjoyed playing it, even for the high price. If you're playing multiple courses, I'd strongly recommend packing your own clubs (or even if you only play one course). The rental sets at Mayakoba were probably the worst I've ever seen and had to play with at a resort course.

How come there weren't many ocean views? Aren't two of the Par 3s pretty much on the beach? Yeah, I'm planning on taking my own clubs on our trip. I wouldn't want to play with any other set, unless they were fitted to me prior to the round, haha.

I've been looking at different websites the past hour and I've pretty much narrowed it down to Playa Mujeres and Mayakoba or Riviera Maya. The wife and I are staying at Excellence Riviera Resort in Puerto Moreles so I'm going to see if we can maybe get some discounted rates.

There are only 2 holes on the ocean - both are the par 3s you mentioned. I suppose my viewpoint is somewhat skewed by some of the ocean courses I have in my backyard here in Hawaii, but the views weren't as spectacular as I expected. First world problems, I guess. You don't hit over the water and the ocean view isn't the best until you get to the green.

Hahah, yeah, first world problems for sure. Those two holes alone looks sweet enough to play for me. We don't get much of that in the Las Vegas (Mojave) Desert.
