Cannot get out on local course

Can't help myself from ranting here. There is a local course that I have recently received a gift certificate from that I cannot seem to get a tee time on. I've tried three times in the past two weeks. Every time I call I explain that I am a single and ask if I can book a tee time or if they can add me to a group-- the answer is always "Sorry, we're booked." Getting tired of this response.

Even if I manage to use this card I will avoid this course and advise others to do the same. It has become a league play course and has jacked prices, etc. Too bad because it is a really nice tract with among the best greens in the Albany, NY area.

It's gotten to the point that an avid golfer cannot get out even as a single. What the heck? Guess I'll be heading back to the Town course or will have to pony up for private play.

Just show up and 100% of the time you'll get paired up. And most of the time pretty quickly.

Are you calling day of? Never had much of an issue where I am.

Do you lead with "i have a gift card and want to play as a single"?

I agree with others, just show up unannounced and ask to be paired up with a threesome that's going out. If it works for Pebble, Bethpage, and other legendary courses it'll probably work for that one

I'm from the Albany area. Which course are we talking about here?

Can you tell if it's the same person in the shop each time you call?

The reason that I'm asking, is that I used to have a membership a few years ago at a nice semi-private in my area. It was a great deal, one fee and all the golf (with cart included) you could play. Most of the employees at the course were great, with the exception of one guy. I didn't know many people there when I joined, so I was usually calling and asking to get paired up with a group. I became suspicious when there was never an opening when this one employee answered the phone, but anytime someone else was working they were always able to work me in. I started going out there anyway even when he would say they had no openings, and there was always a spot for me to play within 30-40 minutes. Thankfully, some other members had already complained about this guy for some other reasons, and he was fired a couple of months after I joined.

I think the guy was just jealous of people getting to play golf. I was single and working a flexible schedule, so I was able to play pretty frequently. He was always making snide comments about how he wanted my job.He just never saw that was also putting in 10 hour days after I left the course.

Paper bag full of dog poop, lit match, ding dong... Problem solved. They are tools and don't want your business.

I'd ask to speak to the head pro, explain your situation and ask if he can help you.

I agree with a few things.

1) Just show up. Hard to believe they never have a spot unless you're going at primetime, which even then surprises me.

2) If you say you have a gift card, you're (wrongfully) more likely to be turned away.

3) Definitely ask to speak with the head pro, if they have one.

Yep just show up. You said its league course though, so make sure you find out what day/times the league plays.

If they still say sorry booked, tell them this is not acceptable, and that you will tell all your friends here on WRX forums, that this place is way to busy and they don't want any other business.

No course can be that busy, I mean with all the golf is dying OMG threads.
