Rich Harvest Farms

Recommended Posts

I was lucky enough to win a silent auction for a charity event last month for a foursome at Rich Harvest Farms. Myself and 3 of my buddies are playing who range from handicaps from 4-14. I am curious as what to expect for the day and any recomendations (conditioning, caddies, tees, time of day to play etc...). I am also curious as to what to expect if anything to tip for two reasons. 1. I have played a few great courses (Pasatiempo, Ghost Creek, PGA West) but nothing that is as exclusive as RHF. Also, since we are technically someone's guest what is to be expected of us?

I experienced parts of the course as spectator during the Solheim Cup but obviously things will be much different as a "guest".

Thanks for your input!

Don't change your shoes in the parking lot
Don't wear your hat in any building with a roof
Bring cash
Don't ask how much anything costs
Tuck your shirt in
Ask upon check in what the proper caddy fee is...pay a little more.

And for the love of god, no cargo shorts!

Oh, and the hat bill faces forward at all times, unless you are putting in winds 25+ mph. In that case, take it off.

I played RHF. It's really hard--hard to the point of being unfair IMO. I don't know when your tee time is, but I would strongly recommend practicing your game off the tee. RHF requires you to work the ball both ways off the tee, and there's a lot of trouble that you can't spot from the tee box. Ask your caddie where you should hit it and listen to him. Otherwise, you'll hit what you think is a great tee shot only to find out that you don't have a direct view of the green.

Thanks for the input guys.

No worries on the proper attire. If I could golf as well as I dress I would be on tour.

Two follow up questions:

1. Where is the appropriate place to change shoes? I am assuming the locker room but I am not sure if we will have access or not.
2. Are caddies required?

Guests are almost always given a guest locker.

'Not sure, but it would be nice to have a caddy. A nice round on a great course is always made better by walking with a decent caddy. You'll probably want to call ahead to see if a caddy will be required. In either case, I'd bring enough cash along to tip the caddy.

Agree with everything above. I've played RHF on 2 different occasions and loved every second of it. I grew up fairly close to it and would go out of my way just to drive by, dreaming of one day getting on. If you have a choice of a caddie and he's available, ask for Freddie. #1 caddie there and has also been there the longest. He's also Robbie Goulds personal caddie when he comes. As far as how hard it is? If you can't hit the fairway it's gonna be a long day. The conditions will be pristine and the greens are immaculate. Enjoy the experience! Oh and ask your caddie or whoever helps you around if you can take a look at his car museum. You'll thank me later. Have fun!

I don't get the don't ask about prices comment. Maybe it's because I'm part of the millennial generation that is ruining golf (further I'm not a part of the 1%ers), but if I'm going to buy something I want to know the price before I buy it. Form your opinons whatever...

Ben could you explain why it's poor form to ask about prices?

So I was in the group that played RHF with OP. It was the best golf experience I've had. The service was phenomenal, amenities were overwhelming and the course was challenging, yet manageable. Our caddie was Elliot, and it would be difficult to find someone better than this guy. Our group played with a member, and Elliot was all over every shot, found nearly every ball (I'm talking deep in the thick s***), and was a great guy to chat with as well.

As far as the round, it was windy to the point of being stupid. Gold #6 was insane, and dead into the wind. We had an 80% chance of rain, but after about 8 holes it opened up and was perfect (except the stiff breeze). I holed out from a bunker to save birdie, so that was my highlight. OP made a great birdie on silver #3, but I would say his best putt was a lag to 12" from over 100'.

I would definitely recommend checking it out if ever given the opportunity.

I've played it twice...same way....auction.

Only tips I have -
-slow down and enjoy it. Each time we went - we were one of three groups for the entire day. Obviously you won't need to worry about a tee time.
-play the tees you want....both times they pushed us up to the front tees....I'd like to see the course from a little further back.
-when offered to see the cottages, indoor practice facility, car collection etc......say YES.....they are all great.
-ask the member and caddies about Michael Jordan....we heard some funny stories.

-Leave on a good note, and hope to go back...it's a special place.

Kind of a goofy argument, guys...everything was clearly marked/tagged with specific prices in pro shop last time i played at rich harvest. If you get a cheeseburger they won't have it at market price and charge you $249.95 for it after you eat it. just tip staff well, and enjoy a great day at a great course. You will love the retractable rakes system for the bunkers. Don't ever have to worry about ball coming to rest against a rake at RHF.
