Stay n' Play in Western NC

I know there are threads here about golf in Western NC generally, but I'm asking specifically about Stay and Play options for a golf weekend. Group of 8 to 12 gathering intel for a weekend trip late next spring (so, yeah, its tough to say what course conditions will be May/June this far out ) and thought I'd solicit advice:

1. Money IS an object. We want reasonably-priced (but not "cheap") golf--if we could keep the base price (golf, accommodations, at least some food) under $500 for a Friday night; play 36 on Saturday; play 18 on Sunday it would be great.

2. We don't want to drive. We want to get there, play there, drink there, sleep there. Premium on places that bundle in breakfast and e dinner.

3. The course doesn't have to be a "name" place--if it is known to be in reasonable shape and have decent greens then we're cool.

I've stayed at Etowah Valley before (about six years ago) and it was just fine--but I'd like options.

So, any suggestions?

Head up to Linville and stay at Esseola Lodge. Staying there gets you on Linville Country Club which is one of NC's best. Maybe a little pricy but well worth it.

Trillium in Cashiers NC would be an option. Can rent houses there for a weekend.

Waynesville Country Club and Inn, they have 27 holes and are reasonably priced. On site accommodations, breakfast, lunch and dinner and usually have very good package deals.

ETA: Just be prepared for it to rain every single day. Wettest place I've ever lived in my life!

Has anyone visited the Sparta, NC area? I haven't but see that there are 3 courses within a mile or so, Old Beau, Roaring Gap, and High Meadows.

What about Rumbling Bald on Lake Lure?

I would suggest you skip most places in that price point in the mountains and head down to the foothills in the Hickory, NC area. You can stay 1.5 miles from Rock Barn Golf Course where they play a Champions Tour Event every year. Hotel will cost you about $225 for the weekend, golf (they have 36 holes) will run you about $225 for the weekend for 2 people. Still have $50 left over for food and I could give you some good recommendations.

Years ago I was part of a group that went to Springdale Country Club every May. They had nice large cabins and a fun golf course in a nice setting. You get there, park your car, and they give you a golf cart to move around the place. Breakfast and supper included with seating at large lazy Susan tables. The golf course wasn't pristine but it was nice enough for our group. It's been several years since we've been so I can't speak to current conditions, but you may want to check it out.
