Champions Golf Club - Houston

Have recently started to consider switching clubs here in Houston. I have been a member of club corp for almost 10 years now, and am looking for advice on joining Champions. Currently I play off 11, so I meet the Hcp requirements. Also I am 28, so I would be interested in the jr membership. How are the playing conditions? Is it easy to find games? Are there a lot of younger golfers at the club? Any advice/ opinions would be appreciated.

There are some younger players at the course, but maybe on the limited side since it is a little more in the suburbs. The Superintendent came from Redstone and has done an incredible job on the course of recent, and is in top shape much of the year. Seems to be easy to find games, according to my friend Lee (your same age or so).

I grew up playing at Champions and have been a member since I graduated college. I'm in the OP age group (a few years older). The club definitely isn't as youthful and trendy as other places, but it isn't filled with just old people either. It's very easy to find a game no matter your playing level or age.

Champions offers a junior membership with a reduced initiation fee ($5K if I remember correctly) and reduced monthly dues.

As for conditions, the course is currently going through a bit of a transformation. We hired on the former superintendent from Redstone (Randy Samoff) in May 2013, and he implemented some much needed changes to course. Conditions aren't Tour=level quality, but they are as good as you could ask for.

All that being said, Randy Samoff no longer is at Champions. For whatever reason (there are many rumors, but most seem like the little bitty women at the club trying to cause drama), Randy resigned back in April. A few months ago we hired on Chirs Ortmeier, the former assistant superintendent at Colonial. So far he's done a great job, and if anything he's seemed to take the 'normal' golfer into mind instead of just listening to the scratch golfers like Randy seemed to do (all they wanted was thick rough, no intermediate cut, and the fastest greens possible, NOT a good idea for the normal Saturday morning 5-some fest).

How is the course now? Anyone have any information on "full" membership costs?

I will be moving back to Houston in the next year and a half..... and want to start looking at where to join. I'm off 6 and am 36 years old. My dad is a member at The Woodlands Country Club but I'm interested in looking at joining other places.
