To let everyone know, i got a message from Grint on Twitter that says their app will use the gps from the apple watch2.

I have used the Grint app on the Apple Watch 2 for 4 rounds. All you have to do once the course is loaded up on your phone and then linked to your watch is TURN OFF your phone's Bluetooth. By doing this, your watch can't use the phone's default GPS and will then its native GPS. This is meant to be a work around until Apple allows developers to only use the watch's native GPS in their programming.

I've been pleased with the watch app overall, but at least once per round the yardage will freeze and not update until I get to the next hole. I must admit this is very frustrating because I use the watch to augment my laser rangefinder for a better understanding of where the pin is on the green so that I improve my chances of preventing being short-sided. When this happens, it defeats the purpose. So, I'm looking at trying some other AW2 apps to see if they work better 110% of the time or if its an issue with the AW2 itself.

The app really looks slick and if you are already using the Grint App on your phone or simply using the app/service on your computer to keep up with your stats and USGA handicap, then their AW2 app does a great job of allowing you to input you stats on each hole without getting in the way. They really did a great job on the app. Also, it gives you distance to and over hole hazards on the AW2!

My buddy used Grint today, I used Hole19, we both used Apple Watches. Nearly all 18 holes we were 10 yards apart on center distances while in the cart together. The laser sided with mine most of the time but on occasion it sided with his. Strange atuff

Anyone use there new shot tracking feature? I just went premium and haven't gotten to the course to try it. Does it show up online after your round like game golf?

Used the Grint app to do a skins game yesterday. Didn't really follow the scoring of the app. Can anyone explain the points system that the app uses? (Mode, points/player: front, back, nassau)

Anyone else having trouble opening the Grint App on an iPhone? My buddy and I both can't get ours to open, we click on the app, it tries to load for about a minute then crashes. Tried deleting and reinstalling but same thing. Thanks!

Haven’t had an issue in a while. I know they had an update about a month ago and it was a little iffy but they patched shortly after. Are you sure there’s no update for you?

No, I don't think so, I deleted and re-installed the most recent version which didn't seem to fix it.

No there’s no slope functionality. I don’t know of any gps units that have slope functionality like rangefinders.

I just downloaded and joined TheGrint app. It will be nice to track my scores and have an official handicap.

I assume I will need to get together with other users to attest to my scores, correct?

    Gotcha

I have a Garmin G8 and love it. I was looking for something to keep my scores for handicapping purposes. How does the app do with battery life on the AW3 and the iPhone X?

I am not sure on the X but my iPhone 8 only lost 5% battery through my 9 holes using the gps feature on the app as well as posting scores

Yes, this app sips battery since the GPS is not always running. I think it only turns it on if you go into map view.
  • zoned_post_meridiemzoned_post_meridiem Members Posts: 66 ✭✭
I sometimes wish the GPS was running more in the background. With the watch (which uses the phone's GPS), it can take 5-10 seconds for the GPS to re-focus each time I look at it. With continuous GPS, it would be more precise more quickly.

does the distance incorporate the elevation change? Like a sloped rangefinder?

Looked at this again but still looks far inferior to Golfshot which works flawlessly for me and has for years. I also have my GHIN through Golfshot which is great since I can just post to HCP after my rounds.
