Couer d'Alene/Moscow, ID, etc.

Recommended Posts

Hi All: I will be driving from Edmonton, AB to Moscow, Idaho next summer (early June). Any tips on courses I should play around Couer d'Alene? Should I hit Spokane and area for some golf? If so, which course(s)? I have three days for travel both ways, so can likely play three rounds en route.

Let me know your recommendations.

Rob

I've played Indian Canyon near Spokane, as well as the Links at Post Falls ID, and they are both okay.

The Resort Course at Coeur d'Alene has excellent conditioning in June. There are some fine holes, besides the par 3 #14 famous floating green.

Circling Raven (near Worley) is perhaps the best public course in the area, and will be right on your way south to Moscow.

(I haven't played it, but Palouse Ridge near Pullman WA is apparently worth the time & expense, and is only 15 mins from Moscow.)

Loved Indian Canyon, classic old design. Enjoyed Circling Raven, but cannot remember much about the course, other than I played well.
Would love to play Palouse Ridge. Looks gorgeous.

Great info so far guys. Circling Raven looks great. If Palouse Ridge will give me the local rate, I would play it (may play it anyway), and the Resort has some good stay and play packages. Will definitely play Indian Canyon as well for that price.

Any other rec's guys?

If you go to the Palouse golf club restaurant, ask for Andy, who runs the joint. Tell him mukster sent you. He will probably have the security throw you out :)

Play Circling Raven and Palouse Ridge.

Pass on Canyon, it isn't even close to the same course it was. The conditioning was so bad this year they moved the Rosauers.

If you're going to play at all in CDA, skip the resort and shoot for Gozzer Ranch. I know it's on box groove (play with a member) and if you're a member at a club, your pro can probably get you on for the unaccompanied guest rate.

The Resort is very nice, but frankly pretty boring by design, albeit very well conditioned. The money you'd spend there can go so much further somewhere else.

Great advice oregon and mukster. I think what I'll do is only play The Resort if they give me the stay and play deal as a single. I'll pay 200 or so for a night's accomm. and for two rounds (get there, play, sleep, get up and play before heading out). Or if I can find a WRXer who would take the other round but not need the accomm. then I get a bed for the night and a round of golf for, say 130 or 140, which is fine for me.

Palous might give me a good rate because I am a uni. professor coming through Wash. for work. I'll try that on and see what happens. I'll likely play it anyway, though, at least once.

I'll try to get on Gozzer Ranch. I could get my pro to contact them. I also have a handicap certificate that sometimes gets me on because they can see I'm not going to chop up their course.

OK, looks good, guys. I'm going to repost closer to the travel dates and see if I can get anyone interested in meeting up for a round.
