Miura 1957 Cavity Back Iron- In hand and comparison photos

Look at these babies. Just got them in and only hit a few balls so far. The first drive opinion is that these are extremely solid at impact. EXTREMELY !!! The mass behind the sweet-spot makes for a extreme SOLID feeling at the hit. Quick and little report back to the hands.

Looks are.... well you be the judge. I don't want to rant about how much I like them. I do that a lot when I put up images like this. Could be my excitement, could be the honeymoon effect or it could be just that I am a freak about irons and when I see good art I like to express my opinion. I normally don't say much if I don't care for the looks of a set. I only rant if I like or love them.

I do really love these... they look awesome. I call them the forged version of the Ping S55's. They look close in overall chassis size and shape. The Miura has a boxier toe and an incredible topline that has a hint of square to it compared to the uber round and thinner toplines I am accustom to with Miura. The soles are dead close to the s55's also. I took some comparison pics below.

The soles are wider on these 1957 cb's than the Miura 501 cb's and the 57's have a blunt leading edge grind that am excited about. The 001 mb's were to sharp for me.

Another thing that I like is the commitment that the Miura family and company have to the game. The fact that they forge in Japan and have such excellent controls for quality makes the heads special for me. Pure comes to mind. I was playing at Essex Golf and Country Club in Ontario Canada yesterday. A Donald Ross beauty built in 1912. These clubs would fit well there. No flash, badges, colors, crazy.... no gimmicks at all. Just forged and pure.

This is what Miura said in the press release for these Limited Edition 1957 cavity backs...

The Series 1957 line of Miura clubs, which includes the famous Small (or "Baby") Blade and the K-Grind wedges, is a special class of Miura distinction, reserved for the most favored designs of the company. While all Miura clubs are of the highest quality, those bearing the Series 1957 crest are considered benchmarks in the history of the company and the career of founder Katsuhiro Miura. He began his career in golf club building and design in 1957 at the age of 16, as an apprentice in central Japan.

The CB57 head features a medium-sized cavity and a progressively sized weight bar to provide the benefits of perimeter weighting and solidity behind the hitting area. Still, the cavity is not so big as to interfere with the forged look and feel, especially from the address position. The weight bar keeps the center of gravity low, and changes size club-to-club as needed to position the CG not just down, but exactly where it needs to be.

The clean, narrow top line is Miura all the way. The sole of the club incorporates the decades of lessons Miura has learned from watching and talking to golfers, resulting in efficient, powerful turf interaction and the best chance of a square face at impact. The overall size of the head is a bit smaller than Miura's successful CB-501 cavity back iron.

The CB57 will be available in limited quantities at first, like other clubs in the Series 1957 line. Suggested retail per fitted & built club will be $275, perhaps higher if certain shafts are used.

I am sitting here relaxing with these in my hand. The comparison between these and the Ping S-55's in terms of over all size and shape is pretty close. Sure the neck and offset are different but the heel to toe length, topline thickness, sole width.... all are VERY close. Ping S-55 has of course tungsten on the toe and more bounce but darn close.

The forged S55... hummm sounds like a gamer.

Here are pictures of the sole in comparison to other recent Miura irons. The thread in the JDM forum also has a lot of good info right around the 3rd page

EDIT: These are photos on page 3 from the Miura thread. Hope nobody takes offense to photos being from another site. These were posted to help the JDM guys tell the sole differences between Miura irons. Regardless, hope it helps.

Does indeed look like the original TM RAC irons... All the RACS that had coin forged on the hosel were done by Miura for Taylor Made... Just hauling out some of the old designs I guess (and modernizing them a bit).. Maybe they will reissue the nice Pro cavity back they did for MacGregor years ago.

Yes they were. The RAC coin forged cb's had a few runs and this was the last from memory that Miura did for TMag. There was even a piece that the golf channel did with Adam Barr where he went to Japan to visit Miura and you could see the TMag heads in process there.

Some think that the next model from TMag the 2005 RAC cb were miura forged but they were not. I know that as fact. We see them listed all the time on EBAy. So many people think they were but indeed that were not.

Richard,
Sole shaping is very reminiscent of Firesole Forged/x300fci, not shocking that you like them. :)

Man those Firesole Forged. We could bend those by hand. So good. I cant believe I sold all of my sets. I actually had a set of "h" heads for heavy heads. Sold em for chump change. Bummer.

Believe me, I recall and can commiserate with you, one set of irons I would love to have back would be my tour issue x300fci satins. The 1957 cb Miura really looks good though, may have to give them a demo.

As son as I seen these pics I thought of the 2003/4 TM Rac cb's with the T stamp I had. One of the hardest to hit cb's I ever played, but that was back when I was a 10-12 handicap. I wish I had them when I was playing as 1.3 GHIN then I could have seen how nice those irons played.

these babies would be almost the same mold TM Miuras

Richard...wonderful job of photographing the comparison photo's. I know when I first got to see a demo head a few weeks ago, I attempted to do some comparison photo's for instagram but they don't hold a candle to your shots! Great job!

On that note....since you're my boss..I'll forgive you for texting me at 5am this morning! Time zone!! HAHAHA! :D But you woke me up with my favorite subject for the last few years. After your raving about your set...I played a round with my Miura MB001's today and because you texted me through the round too, I couldn't get my mind off of your glowing praise for the CB57's. Immediately after my round this morning I headed to my club makers shop to have him build me a set of CB57's. I'm now sitting at home...looking at my new sticks and like you comparing it to the other sets I have ..just not with a camera in hand and the ten dozen sets to choose from! :swoon: I can't wait to at least get on a driving range sometime this week in advance to my next round of golf next weekend. You as you've done for what seems like going on fifteen years now have not stopped tempting me with a new club in the bag! Well done Boss!! :D
