2015 Callaway Apex MB Pics- Comparison w/ Razr MB, MMProto, Mizzy MP-4 & S55

Callaway Apex MB's are the same size as last years RAZR MB. There is a smoother neck grind where the transition of the topline to the hozel. Also you will see a new grind near the toe on the sole side. Looks like the toe area on the sole was ground more and that gives a cool look at address. Toplines and sole grinds are close to the older thank god.

Callaway says the bounce on the new MB's are the same as the old.

Also to complement this set I pulled the 3 and 4 for the Callaway UT irons. Make life easier and I can still enjoy the manual gated shifter. Here are the UT pics with comparos as wel... http://www.golfwrx.com/forums/topic/1079985-callaway-apex-ut-utility-irons-pics-comparison-pics-to-the-712u-rapture/#entry10112631

Here are pics of the 7 and PW as well as comparison to the older Cally MB's, new Nike MMProtos, Mizzy MP-4 and Ping S-55

Awesome, thanks for doing the comparison! All are clubs I'm looking at for my next set of irons.

Had a chance to hit the Callaway 6 iron and it was very nice. Great feel, trajectory, and pretty forgiving. MMs / Vapors look nice too. So many good choices!

Just adding... they reminded me of an MP-32 type forgiveness with a little more meat behind the hit.. which makes sense based on the design.

Great pics!! Just saw these in person after my range session earlier, beautiful irons. Didn't get a chance to hit them but my pockets were tingling!! Lol if we weren't saving for our move coming up hopefully by November my pockets would have been empty lol

I think the UT for the 3 iron and 4-pw of these are epic. Or even the 3 and 4 UT and mb 5-pw. Shape is even better than the last version of the mbs. Here is a topline look of the 7 iron of each. I like the neck and toe better on this new one. The new Apex is on the left and the older RAZR mb is on the right...

These will probably replace my callaway razr MB's years down the road once they get worn out. I wonder if the new grooves would make a difference in spin (I've had everything from a 5 iron and up spin back on me even with c-tapers in my Razr mb's) I've hit these and they are just as smooth and playable as the old ones, they aren't as hard to hit as they look. The only thing that concerns me is the finish, a lot of people have been complaining about the finish of the other apex irons wearing off quickly.

I briefly compared a 7i in both and the apex pro was a touch longer heel to toe and had just a shade thicker topline

I'd like to hear from someone that hit the pro and mb side by side

The difference is what you'd expect. No distance difference for me with the same shaft

Does anyone have offset numbers for the Apex MB's by any chance? Callaway does not seem to post these on their website...
Probably the best offset comparison is about the same as MP-4's. There is not much offset there to speak of.

As for Apex Pro vs MB - Pro is maybe a couple yards longer here and there due to loft differences. MB is 31 degrees at the 6 iron and the Pro is 29 degrees (MP-4 is in the middle at 30). The gaping on the Pro's is a bit interesting and not a very common linearity (starting at 3 to 4 iron and ending with 9-PW the gaps are 2.5, 3, 3, 4, 4, 4.5, 4.5 degrees), and the MB's are more common (3, 3, 4, 4, 4, 4, 4 degrees).

If you like the MP-4's you will like the MB's provided you get the right shaft and check your swing weights as they tend to be a bit light. The Pro's are technically a little heavier (1 swing weight point) but from my own testing the ability to really launch the Pro's is there. I hit the 6 iron on both the MB and MP-4 about 175yds +/- 5 yards in real life and that is pretty consistent with what I have seen on monitor. I have had a couple trials on monitor where I hit the Pro 6 iron 200 yards which I have a really hard time buying, but you never know.

They look beautiful! However.... I still like the high chrome look over the brushed look.

Does anyone else think they resemble a Mizuno T Zoid True with a little smoothing out (which is a good thing)?

Normally, I love the high chrome look but for the MB's the satin look just works. Not sure what is in the final coating but the feel of the clubface (not ball striking, the actual feel) is rather smooth and ballmarks/grass/etc seem to simply wipe away with no sign left behind.

Edit: BALLmarks, not Hallmarks... stupid autocorrect.

Great comparisons for sure, but in the greedy anxious nature of typical WRX threads, I want these new Apex MBs vs. another new MB on the block, the Taylormade Tour Preferred, 2014.

Having played Razr X MBs for 3 seasons, and loving them, I'm not at all avoiding the temptation of Apex MBs. But, I do like the specs somewhat better on TM - each iron is .25" shorter, the SWs are D3. TM has been out since Jan, but to me, the threads here to date aren't as raving as I thought they would be on a decent "looking" blade. Stuff about the leading edge grind being abit harsh, etc....

Any thoughts on these two from the mega giant OEMs against each other?

ps. I also play MP-69, somewhat similar to MP-4, so the thread is double useful again to me.

Just my 2 cents worth, but I tried all the Tour Preferred and they just didn't click with me. Love blades, but the MB's were consistently 10 yards shorter for me and didn't feel great. Tried the other 2 sets and they just didn't do it for me. Plus, that pricing in increments thing was yet another deterrent. Bought a set of MP-4's from the demo rack for $650 instead with NO MARKS on them... I guess they scare people. :)

The Apex MB's you can order shorter in 1/4 inch increments if you want that shorter feel. You can probably ask them to reach a swing weight but not sure they will get there from what others have said. I am sure if you talk with the right person at a shop you can request everything to your specifications... or use one of those "clubfitting/clubmaking" companies like Cool Clubs and have them built to your desired specifications at a cost.

If I remember correctly there isn't a Roger Dunn golf shop out there, but if you are lucky and someone there has a full set of Apex MB's to hit, given them a swing through the set. I would suggest getting a heavier shaft or adding weight to the head especially in the longer irons. That 3 and 4 iron feel a lot like swinging the shaft with nothing attached ... after that everything feels good. If you like that light feel, then you will be good to go. I couldn't feel the head at all, but I am picky to the point of probably annoying fitters. :)

The other, more expensive option, would be to look at getting the UT's for 3 and 4 iron if you like their feel better.

Thanks for your reference as you have the Apex MBs now, lucky dawg.
I don't play 3iron anymore, it's always a 21 degree hybrid and I can go 50/50 on the next slot of 4iron or 25 hybrid, depends on course.

I likely would not be into the UT line - just from pics looks like I could not hit it. I had a Mizuno driving iron a few years back with a heavy stiff graphite shaft that I gave up on. Usually could hit line drive 200 yds, but was never pleased on the landings!

Being older, I like some graphite shafts around, mostly my range days where my MP 69 with the Recoils 110 are best suited. That's why I doubt I would go heavier shafts in an Apex MB to get past the stock D1 SW, I am pretty used to 110-115g shafts as my current Razr MBs are just flighted PX 5.0 (that's around 113g ea.).

My sets are not too worn down yet, just wanted to check out the initial field results from helpful WRXers out there to see if I should even consider the TM MBs or not, now am leaning as more unlikely.

The Callaway UT are actually really easy to hit. Frighteningly easy for as scary as they look for most people who don't play long irons well if at all. I got a chance to hit them at a Roger Dunn's (Santa Ana Superstore) with the Callaway guys present (they still are there on weekends). I am not a huge fan of the Recoil they put in it from the simple fact that they didn't have an X (F5) to swing and the F4 just isn't a good fit for me in that iron. They agreed after the first couple shots that the last thing I need is help getting the launch up.

If you get a chance, give it a swing for reference, but I found that the Tour-V works well. However, I am really borderline between the stiff and X-flex shafts. Personally, I would probably look to the X-flex, but I would really talk with them again before pulling the trigger. I might even look at sucking up the uncharge for a Steelfiber to match my irons... but would like to try the i125cw instead of the i110cw like I have in my irons to add a little more weight and stiffness without going x-flex.

EDIT: I was looking 18 degree to replace my 3hybrid, but if the yardage I am seeing on the 3 iron occasionally becomes the norm, I will pass and put the 60 degree wedge back in the bag.

if anyone is curious about the offset measurements for the Apex MB, here they are direct from Callaway (3-PW):
0.121 0.111 0.106 0.096 0.091 0.086 0.081 0.076
I wonder how these offsets compare to the RAZR MB's. Anyone know?
