Where to play in Phoenix next week?

i will be heading out to Phoenix this coming Monday, so looking to play either Tues, Wed or Thurs. I will be staying at the Marriott resort in North Central Phoenix. Any courses nearby with reasonable rates? The resorts course price is going up to $149 next week, a bit pricey. Thanks.

Unfortunate time to visit, rates start to go up, and with the pending overaeed(some have started) conditions typically decline as well.

Are you staying at wildfire? Cheap golf is not synonymous with that area, and no way would I personally pay that much to play there, nor suggest that rate to anyone this time of year.

If you're flexible on the time you can play, some deals pop up. Use golfnow or teeoff.com to book unless a specific course you want isn't offered, such as grayhawk or wekopa

Thanks, yeah it is unfortunate timing. I am staying at wildfire, I will see if any deals popup on golf now when I get there. Not too fussed where I play, would just like to get a game in. Have the family with me so I don't want to travel too far.

You can put the dates in on teeoff.com and start searching now, they have better deals than golfnow usually

You can play McDowell Mountain Ranch for $45 or so - just checked and they are still taking tee times and haven't started overseeding yet, though you may want to call the clubhouse to confirm. It is less than 10 minutes from the JW Marriott. It's a decent track and well worth the $45. It also has fantastic practice facilities, except in the late afternoon when the range faces into the setting sun.

I've been out there a few times and have stayed at the Kierland Westin resort. The course is great, there are 3 nines, and if you can play in the afternoon try to play the acacia course last as the 9th hole view at sunset is spectacular. They also used to have a guy play a bagpipe at sunset every night (not sure if thats still happening) but definitely a cool touch. I just checked and right now after 2 its 69 bucks. Not a great deal but you may be able to find something better online. Anyway good luck, I love desert golf!

Thanks, I did get a tee time booked for 6.46, might be a little dark. As far as overseeding is concerned, they begin October 6th but they have started to scalp the fairways. So that just generally means tighter lies?

Yes and it actually plays great when they start that process. More like a links course.

So where did you play and how was it?

Bit late but Longbow in mesa is in pretty good shape and cheaper than the high price of wildfire (frankly i am shocked that they slapped it up that high already).

I played at McDowell mountain. Great course, fairways were prepped as I already knew but it was fun. Then I had two rounds on the wildfire Palmer course, loved the course, really in great condition for the time of year. Thanks for all the advice.
