I've only played World Woods and The Dunes which are a bit north of Tampa, up in Brooksville. I'm not
sure if you're willing to travel, but World Woods has two distinctly different courses and are a LOT of fun to
play. The Dunes was awesome when I last played it. It's an Arthur Hills course carved into pines and lots of fairway/waste
bunkers all over, and at an EXTREMELY good price!!

If you want to stay in the Clearwater/St. Pete area, the Vinoy is a Donald Ross design (though it's been redone). Otherwise, Innisbrook is in Palm Harbor and their Copperhead hosts a tour stop. Have not played TPC Tampa Bay but it also seems to be a popular choice in the area. World Woods also always delivers, and you can't miss at Streamsong though it is quite a drive.

Lake Jovita is far above anything in the area on a consistent basis. At times there are a couple of courses that could be in better shape, but in general, Lake Jo is above anything in the Tampa Bay area. 36 holes, both are great. The South hosts USGA and FSGA Qualifiers as well as Q School in the past. Greens are always firm and fast.

World Woods has 36 good holes.

Southern Hills is also nice.

The above are all opened to the public. Didn't include anything that you'll have an issue to get on.

I played TPC Tampa Bay back when it used to host a Champions Tour event. (I don't know if they still do.) I enjoyed it. I played Bardmoor, but do not remember a lot about it. Take that for whatever it may mean. :D

+1 on Fox Hollow. Nice track.

Lots of info in the Florida page

I played TPC Tampa because I only had a short window between dropping my wife at Tampa Airport in the am and my departure in the pm.

If I could do it again with more time, I'd for sure go and play World Woods and Streamsong.

I played TPC the sunday after Thanksgiving last year and the course was in great shape.
Tough course, for sure, but enjoyable.

I don't know when they aerate their greens down there...

Ditto on Streamsong. Our foursome traveled to Florida last year for a few rounds and Streamsong was everyone's favorite. We preferred the Red, but both were fun. If you make it to Orlando, Orange County National and Grand Cypress are two worth considering ... There's a ton of them!

Public courses in Tampa/St. Pete/Clearwater area (or 1 hours drive)
1) Streamsong (2)
2) World Woods (2)
3) Innisbruck (2 - Copperhead, Island) But generally you have to stay there
4) TPC Tampa Bay
5) Fox Hollow
6) Bardmoor
7) Lake jovita (2) - condition varies tremendously
8) Southern Hills
9) Belleview Biltmore (Old donald ross)

There are others but these are the top public in my peronal opinion.

I've been going down there every spring for years and have always liked Westchase. Always thought it was a nice layout and in great condition, and for $90 the price is right. Bardmoor is in that price range, too, and is a decent course. I liked Southern Hills but it's a hike to get up there from Clearwater.

Like just about anywhere, you get what you pay for in that area (for the most part). I've gone to some of the less expensive courses and they've been pretty rough, so a lot depends on how much you want to spend. Generally speaking, anything in $90+ range will be in decent shape. You don't have to spend $200 to find a nice course to play if you don't want to.

Taking full advantage of the search functionality and commenting on this post for planning for my wedding in May. Flying into Tampa, wedding is in Sarasota. Hoping to get a few rounds in before Saturday May 30.

Shameless ask for any private club members who would be willing to host my best man and I for a round, we will pay our guest fees of course.
