Thats ridiculous! I thought it was one of the safest things you could go do. Sure, close the associated bar restaurant, but who cares about one guy in the pro shop and a few isolated groups out on the course.
The one person in the pro shop can become a vector an spread it to everyone they come into contact with, to say nothing of being at risk themselves (especially if they're older or otherwise at risk). I'd think courses could get creative and take payment online or through Venmo/Cash App/Paypal, or just with an honor box outside the clubhouse, so maybe they'll figure out ways around it.
I don't see how it's any different than restaurants being able to take carryout orders.
I have already made a significant amount of payments for golf this year stretching all the way into June. I don't think online payments would be that difficult at all for any golf we might be doing, and golf itself would probably be considered very low risk as far as spreading the virus.
I dont see it,makes no sense. especially if your walking. **** the fact that they changed the rule last yr about leaving the flag in makes it totally conceivable to play.
It was clarified that golf courses can allow play.
Glad they clarified. It sounds like life may be pretty different for a while, so it'll be nice if we have an outlet.
Stocking up on creative ways to play more golf in the near future, including buying a pushcart and building a home simulator setup for the basement.
I have been planning out a simulator plan for the basement as well. New Mevo+ which can inside or outside usage gets me excited.
That's the one I plan on buying. The LH/RH seamless play is huge for me as a lefty. The only thing that sucks is there is currently a 6-8 week lead time. I'm probably still going to move forward though because I figure I can still hit balls using the mat and hitting bay while I wait.
Not sure exactly what this means for golf courses, but I wouldn't be surprised if this closes them for the duration of the order.
That’s my understanding from talking to a few people at different golf courses. Hopefully they at least do some basic maintenance since they are out in the open and not around people, so that whenever this is up we’re ready to go. I’m not sure what’s going to happen with GAM and Publinx yet.
There's quite a big loop hole for golf courses if they choose to use it. They only have to suspend "in-person" operations, and people are still allowed to engage in outdoor activities as long as they keep the 6 foot rule intact. So....I think you could make a reasonable argument that a course could allow online payment and people could walk the course.
This could get us by until the grass starts growing enough that a crew is required to mow it.
I'm not sure courses will risk this, but it's feasible according to the letter of the law.
Something I read on another site (might've been Instagram or Reddit) indicated that other states, such as NJ, considered landscapers and groundskeepers as "essential" due to their roles in soil erosion management and stormwater pollution prevention...which meant that golf course groundskeepers got to stay working; vital if you consider that the grass needs to be mowed and taken care of. I'm not sure what MI's order means for golf courses though...
I just read in another thread that Ohio is allowing courses to remain open, even though they went into shutdown just like Michigan. Hopefully we will do the same!
sure hope so,if not guess ill be playing in Ohio.
I know of at least two courses up my way that will be open tomorrow. Can't wait to play...I was starting to get depressed!
what area are you and what courses?
Devil's Ridge in Oxford and Metamora CC another five miles north.
Weather looks good!
Anyone else have a feeling like by the time we are going to be able to get back to a somewhat normal life, it will be Fall and going into Winter again. This blows. I have a feeling this is our normal for at least 3 months or so.
I think we will be getting back to normal in late May, early June. I walked 9 holes today and it was nice.
Pigeon Creek in West Olive is open, as is Alpine Country Club in Grand Rapids...only causing just a little bit of controversy, given the "stay home, stay safe" order.
Got 18 in at devil's Ridge today. It was packed! Shot a nice little 74 and wiped everything down with clorox wipes lol.
Hey guys is there anywhere near Grand Rapids that I can get a Wishon club ordered?
i would call tee 2 green. they do a lot of component clubs
