That sucks!

Not sure if this is the case here, but some places state in the small print that if you don't cancel by a certain date, they have permission to charge for the remaining balance. (Which is totally bogus!)

That's what I mean ... Since you didn't say "no", they went ahead and charged you the balance of your trip.

I paid a deposit in Monday to RTJ Golf Trail for deposit on a golf trip with some buddies scheduled for next weekend.

Tonight I receive an email "advising" me that over $1100 was charged to my card today for the balance of the trip!

No authorization by me.....they just charged the card!

What kind of scam is this place running? Is there anyone on here who works for this company, or has had the same experience?

I'm ready to cancel the whole trip, advise the BBB, and contact my brother who is GM at a TV station in Birmingham and provide this info to their consumer reporter.

This is bullxxxx!
Does the itinerary still match what you expect? Does the total value charge equal what you expect it to be for your trip? Is this a package deal through RTJ? Do you always fly off the handle and threaten to take things to hyperbolic levels? Do you read the correspondence companies provide you when you purchase goods and services?

I will assume you've already read this:

You booked within 30 days, their system took the expected remainder of payment within that time frame.
Feel free to prove me wrong, but I reckon you've got your panties in a bunch over nothing.

OP, its not a "Scam" when they charge your CC for something you signed up for. Did you call them and have them explain before calling them a "Scam" company? IMO, you really shouldn't be calling them a scam company on a public forum unless they have done something wrong. Charging you for the services you agreed to is not doing something wrong. Am I missing something here?

Tonight on Channel 2 Birmingham: Customer's CC gets charged for services he agreed to. Outrage ensues!!

Our recent trip to Lake Geneva was the same thing. They said they would charge my card in full and if we needed, the guys could call and pay for their part of the trip upfront. It's not uncommon and I'm sure their intention was 100% honorable.

Fun beyond belief. Great group of guys, awesome courses, fantastic accommodations and while this might be hard to believe, we enjoyed an adult beverage...or 10.

So you paid for a trip you intended to go on prior to going? Isn't that how vacations work?

My dad once told me "assume everyone is an idiot unless they prove otherwise." Life lessons.

Well it's good to hear you didn't let timely paying for your trip diminish your enjoyment of it.

I think it's well covered so far in this thread, went kinda how I expected. Here's one question though...has it posted yet, or is it just being held? It's possible they'll just hold it on the card until everyone pays up at the course on the trip, then the hold will go away. This is one reason why using debit cards for something like this is usually a bad, bad idea, because then it's real money they're tying up, not just credit on a card.

That damn scamming Pebble Beach company charged me $1,400 last January for a two-night hotel stay I'm taking NEXT WEEK. . .what a rip-off.

It's normal business practice to charge 100% of a trip these days, in advance. Don't like it, but it's happening. Just be happy you don't have to book 9 months in advance. In my case, I just booked the rooms so I could get advance reservations at Spyglass, and then cancelled 30 days out to stay at a cheaper joint. Who's scamming who? At least they got to make money on my money for a few months.

Thanks to those of you who were constructive and understood my immediate frustration. My intent, while very angry, was to find out if others had experienced such issues.

As for those of you who are obviously so much wiser than I.......they called this morning and admitted the charge was "a mistake", and should not have happened.

And I am familiar with the concept of paying in advance for certain things, thus my anger at seeing a charge made without my authorization.

My guess is that those of you responding in this manner have inflated income similar to your inflated driving distances and handicaps, and probably carry $1500 in your money clip every day.

Perhaps if you had ever been the victim of credit card fraud, or had your identity stolen, you might react differently to seeing an unexpected charge.

Moderator, please lock this up. Thank you.
