Bethpage Black on 10/19/2014

My brother and I want to play Bethpage Black on 10/19/2014. We cannot make a tee time until 7:00 PM tonight (Friday) (apparently). Just wondering if we cannot get a tee time for some reason, what the odds are of us getting on as walk-ons if we arrive there around 9:00 AM. Don't know if it will be any quieter now that the season is getting on ...

You will almost definitely get on but you might have to wait 2 hours or so. I just checked the system and the earliest 2 some that can be made by phone is 11:57. I would suggest calling tonight and locking something down then showing up at the course and trying to get out earlier. Most likely you will be able to.

How did you get that 11:57 info? Do they supply that to local golfers? I just get told to call back later.

NY residents can make tee times 7 days in advance

We got the 11:57 tee time. But we should still get there about 9:00 so hopefully we'll get out a bit earlier than that.

How was the condition and was it crowded? It was chilly and windy today.

We had a good time despite the both of us playing well below our potential. I am going to give it another go next year at some point.

I wouldn't say it was crowded, but it was certainly full. We took five hours to play and waited on most tee shots and full shots into the green. And yes, it was windy but not really that chilly. I actually took off my wind breaker after four holes and played in a short sleeve polo the rest of the round and i was comfortable. Granted I think I was the only one on the course without a jacket or something on, but ...

Next year I will play it well!

5 hours is pretty good on black. I played out in LI too and took my sweater off for a couple of seconds and put it right back on.

It is entirely dependent on the conditions that day. I've played many times and I can only recall one day that was windy. It also rained for the first two holes that day.

How were the greens? I haven't played there in about 2 months. Need to get out one more time before they close it up for the year.

Played two weekends ago and they were healing up pretty nice. I'm sure they are rolling good by now.

Th greens seemed fine. As a matter of fact the aeration schedule said, I think, that the Black was done around 9/22, if I remember correctly. I noted to my brother that you couldn't tell at all that they were done just a few weeks ago.

The greens did have more unrepaired pitch marks than I would have expected though.
