So I went to Scotland two years ago. I went to Bandon last year. No trips this year, but I did schlepp down to Bethpage twice this year (I live north of Boston). So any recommendations for a trip next year? I may or may not have the time/money, but it is fun to think about.

These threads are all over the place but serve no purpose whatsoever unless you include at least the following:

-Time of year?
-Willingness to travel/drive once you arrive at your destination?
-Budget?
-Golf interests besides golf (do you want a resort where you never leave the property or does your group want cocktails, steaks and shenanigans nightly)
-Interest in perfectly conditioned belt notchers or a preference for hidden gems
-How many in your group?
-Driving? Flying?
-Access to private clubs?

and anything else of interest.

I don't agree. Any and all recommendations and explanations of why are welcome. If suggestion X doesn't suit me it may interest someone else.

RS, write some letters early and see if you can gain acces to Sandhills and Dismal River. Then pick up Wildhorse and the Prairie Club along with them.

Not as pricey as Monterey, but great courses, and you'll see apart of the country you may have never been in.

And I gurantee you can play here in under four hours!!

Spring time in Myrtle Beach, SC is very nice. I go down with a group of guys every year and we have a blast. Played all of the Barefoot Resort courses last year...all of them were in great shape and were a lot of fun to play. There is something like 100 courses withing 30-40 miles of each other. Great golf, great food and great weather in the spring. Excellent place for a golf trip.

Northern Michigan. If you have additional time, a swing around the UP and down to Whistling Straits would be the cherry on top.

Southwest Ireland. It's the best golf trip I've taken. I've heard other parts, especially Northern Ireland, are great too. Scotland is great, but imo, Ireland blows it away. The courses are spectacular. Ballybunion, Lahinch and Waterville were my favorites. Old Head is really cool, a must play, but isn't really a links. It's also a little out of the way. My only advice is it takes longer to travel from one town to the next than you would think by looking at a map. Read A Course Called Ireland by Tom Coyne.

I agree with these guys, Ireland is awesome. Played the southwest and plan on going back to play the north in the next year or two, after that will be back to play the south again, after that the north, repeat repeat repeat, just love it. My next domestic trip is a toss up between 3 destinations 1-Myrtle, 2-Pinehurst 3-RTJ golf trail.

Agree--been fortunate to play a lot of places (work dragged me around)...SW Ireland is the best, IMO. Nothing quite like it.

Also, to second another recommendation...if you are looking US, catch Streamsong while it is still a bit lesser known. New lodge is beautiful and courses have matured wonderfully, and rates for a soon-to-be elite destination are still within "annual trip" reach

Summer: Kohler is a great destination. Winter: I love Tucson (Ventana Canyon!).
[/quote]

Ventana was nice, but I'd take Dove Mountain. Of course, no reason not to play both!

Streamsong, like Bandon Dunes, is great if all you want to do is play golf. It's out in the boonies, with pretty much nothing nearby. If your group wants a bit of nightlife, then one must look elsewhere.
