Half Moon Bay Golf Links

I was lucky enough to attend a conference at the Ritz at Half Moon Bay and got to play the Ocean and Old Courses. Both Great Tracks!

Agreed. Love both courses. Been there a few times myself.

Incredibly beautiful spot! Have stayed at the hotel but didn't get to play.

I sadly regret not getting back down after playing golf with two of their wonderful members up in Whistler that said they'd host. Yes, I know...dumbass.

It's a great place, although no driving range there. The Ocean is fun and great views. The Old is a better course although it does take you through a neighborhood. When I lived in the area, they had some great deals through there e-mail club/list. Not sure if that's still the case.

I used to travel to San Francisco for work and would play there. I signed up for their email club and would get great rates for twilight or weekday specials. I much prefer the Ocean Course and its scenery. I never understood why people thought the Old Course is "better". After hearing it enough, I made sure to give it a whirl, but it felt like a traditional neighborhood golf course with three neat finishing holes.

Fun points: The course is also used in a Corona Commercial and is the setting for the movie American Wedding.

People harp on the Ocean course as not that fun, but I always really enjoyed it. It's the best public play course relatively close to San Francisco. Harding Park is nice, but there's nothing to compare to the views at HMB.

My only beef is that I liked the 18th hole, pre-Ritz.

I think people try to discount the Ocean because it is wide open and if the wind isn't blowing it can play pretty easy. I played the ocean in a four man scramble and led (carried) my team to a 62. We played the second hole on the Ocean Course at 313 yards and my drive ended up as shown below. Glad I was playing with partners from 3 various firms it left quite an impression. Can't be mad about having a natural eagle in a scramble.

Just played ocean the first time on Sunday.

The front was not that bad at all, but once you hit the back. Well, that's another story.

Last 3 holes were so hard, wind against you. I took 2 clubs on the 17th hole.

Would love to play the old course. Some photos:

Lesmond- Hard to put the Camera down on the course isn't it! Especially for a land locked born and raised Dallas guy! Also not a huge NIke fan usually but those irons are beautiful

I have only played the Old Course, I grew up near by in Redwood City used to play out there all the time as a kid well before the Ritz was an idea. The Ocean opened up after I left the Bay Area, I was back there last year and chose to play the old for nostalgia purposes but loved the look of the ocean and plan to play that on my next trip back there.

Yes, great course. I made a birdie on the 7 par 3. I played from the back, I think it was 172 yards to the pin. Used a 7 iron (wind-aided) shot and I got it close for a birdie!

Best highlight for me. Of course the views were great. Finished at sunset it was an amazing view.

Thinking of playing the Old course tomorrow. Will be the first for me again.

Wondering about Pastiempo but it is the end of DST tomorrow and unsure when I will finish.

Takes me an hour to get there.

Get ready to hit draws off the tee on the front 9 and fades on the back 9. The front has some big doglegs and often times better safe than sorry

Thanks, I knew there was a catch to that course. No one par that's over 460 yards, so the defense to it is the doglegs and terrain.

I hit a lot of 3 woods and hybrids off tees. Tried to get cute with driver on back knowing I cant hit a fade forcing it over corners or through the fairway did not work so well.. 36-42 lol

Played old course. Was a fun outing. Don't ask about my score, hehe.

Here is a photo of of the 18th. 405 downhill and downwind. Hit a a 3 wood. Had 132 left. Made a par.
