In Florida for the winter - best courses?

Hi,

I'll be coming to West Palm Beach in two weeks and it looks like I'll stay until March. What would you say are the best courses around? Just to let you know more about what I appreciate in a golf course, the courses that I most enjoyed playing on my last year's visit were President CC, Winston Trails, Atlantic National and North Palm Beach GC.

I'm also interested in playing the Blue Monster but at 390 dollars it's a bit too much for me. Is there any way to get to play there at a more affordable price?

Oh, and if someone wants to join me for a round or two, I'd be more than happy. I'm traveling with my wife and baby so I don't have anyone to play with - until February when my friend joins me.

I play Lost Lakes in Hobe Sound alot.

Madison Greens is a good value too.

Played Palm Beach Gardens on Northlake, across from Ibis, on Sunday. Wow! new greens were running about a 12 and billiard table smooth since the reconstruction last year. Prices are almost double what they used to be, tho...

Polo Trace in Delray is always in pretty good shape and the greens are usually really quick. More of a links style course.

Hammock Creek in Tequesta is a decent course as well.

Thanks guys, I'll try all of these. I'm planning to play at least 50 rounds during the winter so I'm open to more suggestions And I'm very interested in Doral, if the price is right. Almost 400 dollars sounds too much.

And how about the private courses? Is there a way to get to play those?

You can Golfnow.com Doral for around 350 but that is the best you can get, you can try after 2pm but you might not finish before dark and playing 18 in the dark is a shame. The Red course is around 240 which is awesome. Brand new everything. The Blue Monster is meant to be exclusive , after New Years the full rate is 450 so if it's a bucket list do it now. They close in the summer so no discount for off season.

Put Streamsong on your list if it's not there already...

Pretty sure Hammock Creek is in Palm City, about 10 miles from Tequesta, but easy to find. Also agree with Lost Lake being a good one.

If you want something tough, try Eagle Marsh in Jensen Beach/Stuart, West Palm Beach GC, Osprey Point in Boynton Beach, Martin Downs CC (now public), and any of the PGA Golf Club courses in Port St. Lucie. Jupiter CC is a Greg Norman course that is still public also.

Second Hammock Creek. It's one of the better values you will find. PGA Golf Club....well $89 is a green fee that is more in line than the $149 they charged last winter, but still not the greatest value.

Martin Downs is a nice course as well. Makes you think your shots through. Just make sure you bring your rake from your cart if you are in a bunker!!
