***ATTENTION***IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT***ATTENTION***IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT***ATTENTION

Last year, in an effort to improve the capability of our forums, we switched to new software. We expected tremendous scalability and rapid customization that would significantly improve each Member's experience across multiple devices and integrate flawlessly with social media platforms.

Unfortunately, after a significant capital expense, we have decided that the length of time and the additional cost to reach our goals make this enterprise untenable.

Thus, we have made the difficult decision to transition the forums to our original software platform. We’re excited that, in the nearly two years since we began the process of our most recent switch, our original platform has been upgraded significantly, and we are confident that the reversion will not only provide the stability that we desperately needed prior to our last move but will also return to the Membership the high level of customization that made our online community so great. We have also added technical resources to the GolfWRX staff that will allow us to build custom modules and modifications that we are confident will take the forums to the next level.

We remain the world's largest online golf community, and we still hold true to our core values and mission statement as written in 2005. Bearing both of those elements in mind, being the best and offering our Members a platform that is world-class are both requirements, not options, and it is that spirit that has motivated this decision.

So, please pardon our mess over the next five days or so while we transition the forums.

A few important notes: Current content will be accessible during that time, but the forums will be READ ONLY, and you will not be able to start new threads or reply to posts. Personal Messaging is enabled but PMs sent/received from the time the board was frozen will not carry over. We know this is inconvenient, and we apologize, and we greatly appreciate GolfWRXers bearing with us through the transition.

We are very excited about starting this next chapter for GolfWRX and getting back to the high-quality Member experience we all expect as soon as possible.

    Ok, so because of this topic I started looking for these sticks. I started playing a year and a half ago and bought Callaway X2hot irons at the time. Game improvement, distance irons with the occasional 190 yard 8-iron that flew the green. After a long search, I found Srixon z745 on Ebay in good condition for cheap. They had the DG S300 shafts in them and the original grips. Decided to buy them.<br />
    <br />
    Arrived end of September. Got 1 range session of an hour with them before I went on holiday for a month. After the range session I wasn't very excited: Not a great feeling, lost quite a lot of distance and boy could I feel the mishits!<br />
    <br />
    Came back from holiday on Thursday and decided to hit the range on Friday. Still not overly impressed with them... On Saturday I played 18 holes on my home course with a friend for the wintercup. We played normal greens but the tees were 15 yards more forward than normal. Hit 16 of 18 greens in regulation. Of the 2 I missed, one was because I hit my drive OB... Even hit a 3-iron from 210 to 10 feet! I lost about a full club distance-wise, but dispersion left/right and long/short was so much better!<br />
    <br />
    Finished the round in 73, which is one over par, and which is 8 shots better than my previous best score. My handicap currently sits at 15,7, so I can't explain how excited I am to tee it up again this weekend. /humblebrag <br />
    <br />
    Might look for other shafts, as I'm really not liking the feeling of the DG S300, but very very difficult to test shafts where I'm from. I wouldn't even know where to start actually, so I'd just have to buy it on reviews and give it a try...

    Look into Modus 3 105X, 120X, or 125S.<br />
    <br />
    Played S300s for over 10 years and my 125S are night and day better in smoothness, feel, ball flight, and distance.

    I'm at 15.7 now (was still a 36 hcp 7 months ago - that's when I played my first competition).<br />
    Longest iron in my old set was a 5 iron, that I hit around 180 meters (197y). Distance with the Srixon 3 iron is between 185 - 190 meters (202 - 208y), so not much longer than my old 5 iron. <br />
    <br />
    Callaway PW - 130m vs Srixon PW - 120m<br />
    Callaway 7 iron - 160m vs Srixon 7 iron - 150m<br />
    <br />
    Probably a mix of stronger loft + longer and lighter shafts in the Callaways?

    Im still rocking my Srixon Z745's and cant find anything to de-throne them! I do however have some serious wear and browning starting to become evident. What do you guys think I should do? I don't love the look of the 765's. Should I try and find a different iron set to get back some performance from fresh grooves or hold out until the next release?<br />
    <br />
    Thanks!

    I say hold out especially if you don't like the look of the 765. You could just find a nice used set of 745 and reshaft, that would be the cheapest option. I will be playing my 65s till they are beat to ****, I'm absolutely infatuated with them and love every chance I have to hit them. I'm so glad I ran into srixon equipment by chance. I had no idea it was so good. Hidden gem in my opinion.

    This would be my guess... and it wouldn't surprise me to see you gain a little more with a different shaft over the S300. I have never hit that shaft well, threw some PX 5.5 flighted in my 745s and the feel and performance are incredible. I am on a run with my AP2s right now, but am considering throwing the 745s back in the bag soon... they are amazing all around irons.

    I don't want to jinx it. So I'll try not to speak too highly of it. Screw it. I've gone through a real bad slump in driving over the past year. I used to hit a nice reliable 260 yd cut. But I wanted more, don't we all. I decided to see a pro about working a draw into my game. What a long process. I easily learned to draw my irons, then hybrid, then 3 wood, but continued to struggle with driver. During that time I went through a handful of the newest and best drivers available, nothing seemed to click. On a whim, while surfing the bay one night I saw a Z745 driver with the Attas 6star. I've always been interested in the Attas shafts and it was only $150 for the whole set up I said what the **** and gave it a shot. Best gamble I've ever made. I've hit so many LONG tight penetrating draws with this thing. Jaw dropping really. At this point I'm not sure if it's the shaft or the club head. But I'm not changing a thing. It didn't come with an adjustment tool and I'm not even going to buy one. Of course it's not a magic stick, and I've had some bad drives. But it is the best I've drove the ball in a long long time and it has really brought some excitement back to my game. One of my long time playing partners even said, nice to have you back. He meant that it's nice to see me with long respectable good ball flight drives again. He said you're poking that thing out there 290-300, realistically I say it's more like 280. So, yeah I'm a fan. I've definitely learned that newer isn't always better. And the Z965 irons and even the 4 and 5 Z565 are awesome. Hit some of my best iron shots of the year last time out and it was my first round with them! This is the type of thing that draws you back into the game and gets you thinking about your next round all week.<br />
    <br />
    But I'm a realist, and I have to attribute some if not all of this to me just swinging well right now. Plus I have to give myself some credit, too!<br />

And the Z965 irons and even the 4 and 5 Z545 are awesome. Hit some of my best iron shots of the year last time out and it was my first round with them! This is the type of thing that draws you back into the game and gets you thinking about your next round all week.<br />
    <br />
    But I'm a realist, and I have to attribute some if not all of this to me just swinging well right now. Plus I have to give myself some credit, too!<br />

    <br />
    Thanks!<br />
    <br />
    <br />
Hidden gem in my opinion.<br />
    <br />
    <br />
    How are you liking that 745 driver?<br />
    <br />
    <br />
Very cool. I love the shape of that head and love the deep face of the driver.... I'm going to give the 917 D2 a shot, but I always have my eyes open for the 5/745 series woods. I still have the f45 3 wood, and the h45 19* hybrid. Both have worked really well for me out on the course, well enough I just can't give them up, much like the 745 irons even if I am not playing them. These latest posts making me want to throw them back in the bag though!

    Just went from iblades to 745s. Seriously good looking clubs that feel even better love the soles . I do lots of bump and runs and the srixons perform better on those for me. Found the iblades to be a little jumpy off the face around the greens.

    I just bought a set of 945 to try out for cheap cheap. I'm still wanting to find a set of these in good condition to have a go with. I'll see how the 945 play - I think they'll be good. Very interested in whether or not these provide much more help though. My gut tells me the 945 will be fine down to 5i.

    I had the 945s, too... they are beautiful, some of the most beautiful ever, but I thought the 745s were considerably more forgiving and I really wanted to game the 945s. I wouldn't say the 945s are as tough as maybe some of the Titleist MBs but the forgiveness of a good players CB is hard to ignore.

    Yeah I’m interested to see how they play. They may end up back on BST but I have no issue playing blades generally. I’m interested to see if they keep the spin up over the 765 I HD because I adore the feel of the V sole. Our conditions up in Canada vary so much and when I go to Florida in the winter it is often very soft so having the V sole is great.

    If you're looking for a gap wedge you can get it in a 785 series domestically. It wont exactly match obviously, but its good enough. I actually really like hitting mine.

    Funny it seems like every family of releases has its big hits. The 2014 hit was the 7 series. The 2016 was the 9 series. And it seems like tons of love for the 2018 5 and 7 series.

    I just overpaid for a set off eBay. Gripped them yesterday and hopefully heading to the range later if the weather cooperates. Project X in mine.

    If you can find a set used in solid condition the price will be high, these things seem like a cult classic, hope you enjoy them

    I am and will continue to play them until I wear out the grooves. Fortunately with not a lot of sandy soil in the midwest, that should be for at least a few more years.

    besides head shape vs the 785s for those who have tested both or all the 7 series irons from srixon which would you say is the best?

    Me. 745's with SF i95's. Still gaming and am dreading the day I have to change. Faces are showing some wear and a little browning. Hopefully the Zx7 is a little bit of a move back to the old shape. I've heard it is, but will have to wait until I see them in person.

    Regarding which is best? In order for me: 745's, 785's 765's.

    I have a brand new set 3-pw still in the plastic but can’t bring myself to play them. For whatever reason I didn’t get along with the 765 or 785 when I tested them outdoors. Will probably end up selling these.

    Sold my 745s with PX 5.5, but bought another set off the bay with Modus 105s about 6 months ago, they are in the bag for now but will most likely back up my Hogan Icons when they arrive... I will not be selling the 745s anytime soon though... amazing irons, the shape is perfect.
