SLDR S Refinish

I picked up a beat up SLDR S head on ebay recently and plan on refinishing it. It had a deep pop up mark on the crown so I sanded it down and levelled it out as close as possible. My question is, before I paint should I remove most of the original paint or get a good layer off to rough the finish up and then paint? Any input is appreciated!

Depends on how good of a job you desire. If you are using rattle can paint I'd just scuff the old paint, mask, then hit the head with 2/3 coats of "fill primer". Once the primer has dried use a gray scotchbrite pad and level the primer on the entire head. You may need a couple extra spot coats on the damaged area to build up the paint layer thickness there.

Rattle can paint durability pretty much sucks so know that going in. You need automotive type urethane paint if you want a truly durable paint job.

Well I sanded it all down and taped off the edges. Painted it with a matte black spray paint, let it cure, then shafted it with a Prolaunch Blue 3 wood shaft and iline grip. Also added a second weight to have a total of 30g on the heel. Overall turned out to be a decent little project.

Nice work, that paint job came out pretty darn good!

How do you like that shaft? I've been looking at that shaft on eBay for my Nike Covert as a possible purchase in the future, not sure though.

Love the shaft. I normally hit a low launching ball but this thing really helps me get it up. I had it in a 909D3 and it was my longest driver by about 15 yards. If you need a high launch shaft this would be the one for you.

That ferrule makes my eyes hurt, nice paint job though!

Sapps_12, how did you go about adding the extra weight to the sldr head? I have been curious for months about how to do this. Thanks

Just a caveat about using Krylon or Rustoleum type paint from a spray can: the crown of a driver head flexes a little when it strikes a ball and cheap paint will crack and chip easily as a result. I know this from experience .

I think u should get it to raw and let it rust, all of ur buddies will die that your striping it with a rusty driver lol
