GD PM702 & 902

This sounds like Tiger suing the company who made his $20 million dollar canoe, er yacht.

I was searching the net the other day & came across this, Phil is taking Graphite Design to court for using his name to promote his two major victories. According to the artical GD would not excet a contact with Phil on an endorsement deal to play GD, & with GD claiming that Phil does use their shafts Phil wants to get PAID. Could this be the reason that GD has taken the PM702 & 902 models off their site? If anyone has anymore info I'd love to hear it. I wonder who will win this battle!

Wow that is interesting..... on the one-hand you can see why Phil would want to stop GD from using his name to promote their products if there is no current agreement/contract in place.... but on the otherhand he won the 2 majors when there was one in place, so maybe they have every right to say that he did.....

my prediction...... some lucky Lawyers will make a lot of money :tongue:

Well from what I read Philly Mick tried pitched a deal to Graphite Design which in turn GD turned down & I guess he's a bit pissed about that so he wants his money. Could this be the end of GD's PM702 & 902 shaft line? I was just surprised nobody heard about this sooner.

Actually, according to the suit, GD had an agreement with Phil to produce the PM702 & PM902 as proprietary shafts for his/tour use only and due to numerous questions ref: shafts due to Phil's success w/ same decided to bring same to retail market. Phil's representation then advised Graphite Design that since GD had violated previous verbal agreement by bringing shafts to market w/ implied endorsement from Phil, GD could either rename the shaft or cease/desist any direct or indirect implication that Phil endorsed the product or come to the table w/ attempt at compensation agreement for continued usage in advertising and GD refused to do either, leading to the suit.

i think i read a GD press release that DID rename the PM702 to "prototype model" 702. that's funny...

yea but right away for me at least, seeing the initials pm on the shaft automatically brought to mind phil mickelson

This is just an example of Phil being Phil, he's just a different breed.  A little unusual, maybe this is why nobody on tour likes him.. HE's just an arrogant dick.  :tongue:

I'm very sure it was originally refered to as the 'Prototype Model' (PM) when it first showed up on their website a little over a year ago.

It wasn't till the masses caught on to it being a proprietary shaft made for Phil Mickelson, did they just automatically assume that the 'PM' stood for Phil Mickelson. Although I'm pretty sure it was no accident on GD's part. Spelling his entire name out on the shaft would have been a little too obvious. Putting 'PM' on it was their little play on his name.

And as far as I know the shaft hasn't gone under a name change, but it's no surprise that it has disappeared from the website in the wake of the lawsuit!
