Titleist 915D3 -- makes no sense

Recommended Posts

have not had a Titleist driver in the bag since 905r (with candy lime green ozik circa 2005--lol)

I have played 5 rounds and call it the honeymoon period or whatever, however, 915D3/Blueboard

This is the STRAIGHTEST driver that I have ever hit in my life.

just unbelievable.....

also, a shootout for the fairway metal 915f vs jetspeed tour vs rbz tour

this is for real -- I had been a TM driver homer for 10 years

gotta love straight-- discuss.

It's incredibly straight, yet workable at the same time for me. My stock shot off the tee is a draw, but the open face on this driver allows me to be able to hit a fade without trying to manipulate the face too much. Simply the best driver I've ever owned, and this is my first go- around with a Titleist big dog! Consider me sold!

different strokes for different folks... this went toe to toe vs my Ping G30 SF TEC and I REALLY wanted the 915. Maybe I just don't have the super human SS?? Ping just suits me... same thing with the G30 5w vs the 915F 16.5*... even the stock shaft in the Ping vs the Rogue the Ping won out by big margins... 15 yds farther and tighter dispersion....

I have the D2 but couldn't agree more. I've played Titleist drivers since the 905 and have NEVER hit anything as straight as this driver. I can still hit my little 10 yard push draw, cut, etc. just fine. But if I open up the face a hair at address and just let my body do it's own thing, this thing flies on a string. Hands down the most impressive driver I've ever had.

For some reason, I wasn't impressed with it at all hitting it on the simulator, especially comparing data between the 915 and my previous 913, but I figured I would give it a chance and wanted to upgrade from my 913 anyways. I'm VERY glad I did. As soon as I got it outdoors and on the course I knew it was the real deal.

I was fit for this in November and was put in a 915d2 with the rogue silver. I have only hit it in the simulators with the cold weather north of the border. Heading to Puerto Rico in a couple of weeks and cant wait to get it on the course.

Thanks for the updates and feedback

good Diamana shafts + good Titleist heads = good drivers overall

no real surprise for those of us playing the 913 series, particularly with the D+ shafts (910 series and shafts not so much)

yeah, I saw my friend that is a low cap - pick up yardage gain over his 913D3 Driver and 913F so I took a flyer, my head pro in FLA is a Titleist go so it was pretty easy to demo..........smiley, I forgot just how great Diamana is, last straight driver almost as close to this was TM 2008 Burner Tour/Whiteboard

Had the same experience in the sim and just placed an order for a D3 w/Rogue Silver 60S. Was going to go with a RIP alpha but the Rogue just felt much smoother while not spinning much more.

You definitely don't need a crazy SS to hit this thing either...I tend to be in the 104-106 range but first hit it soon after a back injury and was putting it out close to 270 with only a 99mph or so swing. Full bore I was seeing near 300 numbers which is unheard of for me...thats when I pulled the trigger.

How is the distance of the 915f compared to the rbz2? I have a new D2 and a big fan but was worried about how the fairways would keep up.

Shawnee, I am close to 50 and have a similar swing speed. Did you go S or X with the Blueboard? I am courious because I tried the S and was too soft for me, no control. Did not have a chance to hit the X though. Thanks

Do you have a vintage Blueboard in it, or do you mean the new S+ that comes stock? I was just curious because I ordered my 915 D2 with the new S+, but have not been able to hit it yet. The driver is taunting me in the garage. I hate PA winters. I originally had the prior S+ in my 913 but it was just to whippy for me. I put a D+ in it and hit it pretty straight, but wasn't getting the launch angle I wanted so I decided to get a S+ in my 915 because I heard the new S+ has a pretty similar feel to the original Blueboard.

Ahhh, juiced up sim numbers, gotta love it.

Have only hit in sims at work, but I have no love for the 915 (D2 too big a footprint, D3 at least has the right shape). Don't like the new paint or alignment change either, so it had 2 strikes against it already for me. Am actually starting to enjoy the G30 (9* or 10* SF) more and leaning on that as my new driver purchase of the season. But it'll have to perform miracles to be more consistent than my 2Deep.

I've had a similar experience, but not with the 915 (never hit that one). I bought a used 907 D2 (I know - worst driver in golf history apparently) and I had never hit a Titleist driver before. My fairways went from around 60% with the 3 other drivers I was rotating to well over 80% with the Titleist. Kinda freaky - I have to almost try to miss the FW. I can move it right or left but I have to make a deliberate effort to.

Wondering if this is a trait of the Titleist drivers - would like to keep the accuracy and lower the ball flight. I hit the 907 very high - not ballooning - just really really high with no rollout. For now, I'm enjoying playing from the FW.

The head has to have something to do with being an accurate driver because I have heard (both on the course and on golfwrx) that people are saying how straight they are with any of the stock shafts offered. I for one, am setup with the rogue silver x and hit this thing straighter than anything I have ever hit. Personally I am sold that a spin rate around 2200-2500 is ideal for me because the SLDR and Bio Cell 1800-2100 would get me some absolute bombs, but the dispersion was too hard to control on tighter, tougher courses.

Got fit into a 913D3 when it came out a couple of years ago. Can agree it was the straightest driver I have ever hit. But, it was 15 - 20 yrds. shorter than the SLDR I'm hitting now. to those of you who have hit the 915 and SLDR, how's the distance comparison?
[/quote]

I'm hitting the 913D3 and I tried the 915D3 (exact shaft, loft, setup, etc.) Just really didn't get enough of a difference to make the move...

As for the 915D3 (or 913, for that matter) vs the SLDR, I got pretty solid numbers with the SLDR (definitely lower spin), just didn't like the look and feel enough to switch. Might be sacrificing 8-10 yards, but just not worth it if it doesn't look right.
