What is your favorite course type?

Recommended Posts

My home course isn't very long. 6700 something. Buy with dogleg and bunkers and trees it is more of a shot maker/ ball striker type of course. So you can bomb it on some par 4 but for the most part I take 3w out or hybrid about 50% of the times. Don't get me wrong I love taking driver out all the time but this kinda makes you thing. There are 4 or kinda drivable par 4s but half of them have water ssurrounding the greens. Plus those have the British open style wild rough and is a pain in the arse to get out if it. So what's is your favorite layout.

I love my home course, its 6600-6700yds but there's a lot of doglegs and thick pines. You can play the course a number of ways, in the club championship 2 years ago i hit driver 3 times in 2 days....other times you can use it 8-10 times a round easily

You can get into trouble, but hitting driver also gives you a lot of 9 irons and wedges into greens.

I like risk/reward courses. I played an interclub a few years back at a 7000yd+ course where you could hit it basically anywhere...i don't really like that

Here in Florida most courses are flat. I love hitting those few that have at least a little elevation to them. My favorite, BY FAR, is Bella Collina near Clermont. This little Faldo design is a jewel - pristine condition, elevations unlike anything else in Florida, and a challenge for all levels.

The flat courses have their fair share of challenges but it is not the same as changes in elevation.

(I also thoroughly enjoyed playing in Colorado BTW)

I hear what you are saying. Those are what my dad would call a thinking man's course. He is the reason why I started golfing. Once I could start out driving him, we switched to courses like those. It's almost as the course tells you, "good for you that you can hit a long drive, but that won't help you there. Needless to say he dominated me on those courses. My course has a lot of risk/rewards. There are 4 off of the top of my hhead. All of them are elevated but 2 of them are surrounded by water with a little 10 yard neck, that is crooked. And the greens are fast and hard so you can just fly it onto the green. It's great, because I feel confident when I play in tournaments. I can bomb it on long courses and can shape my shots on shorter narrow courses.

I really like modern style courses that have links aspects and influences in their design. For example, my ideal course specifically would be long, preferably at least 7000 yards, pretty wide open but with tall fescue throughout the course that punishes any significantly errant shot. Also, not really true to links, but I like lots of significant elevation changes, especially if they offer good views in addition to adding some challenge to the course. And finally, large and fast greens.

I've never had the opportunity to play true links golf, however, but I'm sure I'd love it. The most links-reminiscent course I've played would either be Erin Hills or Whistling Straits, and they are pretty much the epitome of my ideal course type.

My favorite is links style. US open style courses have never impressed me. Being from New Orleans area everything around here is very flat. I love elevation changes and mountain courses because they're so different from what I usually play.

I love links golf or links style golf...rolling terrain, undulating greens whether it be subtle or severe, the ability to play bump and run shots, firm conditions, and wind...not all the time, but I enjoy all kinds of inclement weather; look at it as a challenge and it gets the juices flowing when conditions are tough, I'll purposely go out and play when the weather is horrible; living in Wisconsin and loving golf, there is no room for being a fair weather golfer:)

That being said, my home course is a fairly traditional, tree lined course:)

Links or Up North Michigan. There is nothing better. 6300-6800 is all that's necessary. 7000 if I looking for true test. I like course where bomb driver w/ risk reward or layup w/ hybrid alot too. It just makes it more fun.
