What shaft do you guys use in your Driver

Recommended Posts

how stiff?
i use the stock pro launch in the G2, 65S. i know its a bit weak, but it fits me so well. I get great launch, nice high drives even though i use an 8.5. I was at golf galaxy earlier and was so intrested in the aldila pink NV 65S, but why change something that works well.

how about your guys shafts?

I use the same shaft as you right now, the ProLaunch 65S, which does put a pretty darn high ball flight on the ball, but I also have a Cleveland Comp 9.5º head, which I think I am either going to opt for a lower launching head, or a different shaft. I had an NV in a previous Comp, and I think it was a little smoother than the ProLaunch. I really think I need to get a lower launching shaft so I can find more fairways, so the options are either put something like a regular Grafalloy Blue in there, or get a 905S with a shaft that works well for me.

The ProLaunch was a really good shaft earlier in the year when I was having some trouble getting the ball up in the air (I was casting, so I was getting low inconsistant screamers :help: ) but after the 2 weeks that it took to fix that my ball flight went from really low to wicked high. The ProLaunch is a really good shaft if you are trying to get the ball up in the air, but it isn't the smoothest shaft in the world by any means

Speeder 757 stiff.. on the stiffer end of stiff... i love it not whippy loads and unloads really well. i like how stout of a shaft it is, but still smooth.

After going through different shafts, for optimum distance, all that matters is what you get to launch properly with little spin. I use an aldila prototype x and if fits well althought its a little light, 70 grams, but one of my good friends tried out all the demo's at our home course and he liked a 65 R. Yeah, regular. He swings it pretty fast too, he's up their by me, and the ballflight is perfect, which makes no sense.

Actually it makes perfect sense allow me to explain... this system has been created by tru temper...its the shaft lab.......most people think that Swing Speed=load(of the shaft)=flex; your typical A=B=C except that A doesnt = C, swing speed doesnt designate flex.....flex is determined by ho you load and unload the shaft which is measured properly by the clubs that are attached to the computer system of the shaft lab.

go to True Tempers website to check out the shaft lab.

So, Dan, are you saying that swing speed has no effect on how the shaft loads? Allow me to explain, the resistance caused by the air on the club head (more so than the shaft it self) will cause the head to lagg with a certain swing speed. Even the smoothest swinging person in the world would get lagg with a suffcient swing speed. Take Els for example, almost no loading at the top but he accelerates into a c. 130 mph club head speed at impact which means that over that time he is swinging the club head 130 mph, and with his current driver (460cc) the ammount of surface area that the air can have resistance to is greater and the air thus slows the head slightly making the head lagg and shaft bend.

If you need a better explionation PM me.

As for shaft, I'm playing An Aldila NV 75S fully inserted and tipped out to play 44.5" and just over an X flex. The deep bore in my 905S really changes the flex.

I am justr saying that SS doesnt automatically determine flex.....most tour players are fit to what they think FEELS best not what would truly benefit them......i had this same problem when i went onto the shaft lab.....it fitted me for softer but i cudnt imagine myself palying softer so the guys are making me a few demo clubs to see how i like a sofer flex.....we were afraid that id hook a softer flex because i have such a hard release at the bottom.

I use a fuji 757 in my driver (s) flex my ball speed last time i measured is in the 160 region so i think that equates to about 110-115mph, i dont bother with an x flex because i think with a slightly softer shaft you can get away with a lot more plus the 757 is pretty stout anyway and i hit it well best shaft ive ever tried, in my 3 wood i use a fuji vista pro 80 (s) flex, another greatshaft that is a perfect match for a fairway wood and then dynamic gold s300's in the rest of my clubs 2-lw, i always stick to the analogy of a slightly softer flex will do you more good than a too stiff shaft.

My Speeder 757 frequencis on the Rifle scale to about a 6.8to a 7.0 somewhere in there i dont remember which.

V2 in my 3wd frequencies to just above a 6.5

My rifle Flighted iron shafts frequency to a 7.2.....dont ask i ordered 6.0's from Titleist and they are 6.0's but rifle makes all of there hafts for the old lofts on iron so my 2 iron shaft is actually a 1 iron shaft and my 3 iron is a 2 iron shaft and so on an so forth. aka Hardstepped(not on purpose) i will have tru 6.2 in my new set in the spring.

  • 1 month later...

I play an Aldila NV 75 s in my driver. At golf galaxy this shaft seemed to be the best for me: launch angle of 13.7* and my drives were landing just short of 300, and roll included ended up past it. Not a bad shaft for my game right now. Sometimes I wonder if I should be in an X flex, but this is fine for now, so I'll stick with it.
