MOST OVER PRICED GOLF BALL/UNDER PRICED BALL?

deetsal

Recommended Posts

Lets kind of stay on retail price, or "street" price. Or even sale price as with Maxfli U4, buy one get one free type. This will not be a perfect stream of answers, but here are my votes.

over=nxt tour, everything Titlest I would say.

under=still maxfli u balls. (not u6s) - wilson staff duo/callaway supersoft.

Totally agree, I love the 50 Elite and for only $1 a ball. How can you go wrong?? They're soft feeling, durable as ol heck and they get good spin on short shots. I love this ball :)

I think any ball over $39.99/dozen is overpriced.
100% agree! There's not much difference in Titleist's $45 and $35 dollar offerings to justify buying them the more expensive ball for casual golf. This is also true for all the other golf ball manufacturer's. Buying higher dollar golf balls is just your willingness to pay for the companies marketing expenses.

+1.
prov1s are overpriced and it makes the other companies jack up the prices of their premium balls to $40+.
the greenside spins on 50 elite is quite amazing in my experience.

This is a tough one...b/c it's such an opinion question....but when you look at how similarly balls perform from company to company, it's hard for me to argue that any "new" ball that's in the $40/doz. range isn't over priced...when you can buy a ball from a year or two ago for a steep discount, it makes the brand new/retail price seem a bit ridiculous...

That said, you can make the same argument for brand new drivers, irons, etc.

Totally, I got my entire bag from leftover last year's stock. Didn't pay more then $100 for any one club in my bag and they all work just fine :)

no doubt titleist is overpriced, along with most premium balls, but often consumers equate cost to quality. if titleist dropped its costs to $35/dozen, lot of golfers would start to think quality diminished. paying top dollar gives lot of consumers the reassurance they are buying the best, even if they don't have a clue.

personally i stick to last years 5a used models sold on ebay

Yeah, I think what this conversation really indicates is how overprice "MSRP" or even typical new retail prices are...

I can see the mid-tier balls either getting eliminated or some serious price restructuring needed. When I can buy soon to be discontinued tour level balls for $30 or less (which seems like all the time) it makes the $30-$35 surlyn balls seem unnecessary and a poor value. I don't see a noticeable difference in distance between say the typical tour level urethane ball and a surlyn ball, but I do see a noticeable difference in the short game. Why pay for partial performance when for the same or less I can get full performance?

Every ball titleist makes is over priced until the Xmas before the new model comes out.

ProV1/x...srixon/callaway make comparable balls cheaper

NXT Tour... TF Gamer/Gamer Soft is half the price

Velocity/DT Solo...Pinnacle Gold and others perform the same for cheaper.

Never really hit Wilson or Maxfli balls recently, but I'm sure they fit somewhere above as well.

To me, the most overpriced balls on the market are the Bridgestone RX series.

This ball is for "slower" swings, def not intended for PGA Tour professionals and yet the prices are the same as their Tour level B330 series. What's up with that.

Imagine if the DT solo was priced at 47.99 like the ProV1. Good times..

The balls construction is the same other than basically the compression so the price would logically be the same. No different than paying the same for iron shafts in X flex or regular flex.

Overpriced balls: Titleist Pro V1 & NXT, Bridgestone RX & RXS, Callaway Speed Regime 1,2,3

Underpriced balls: Callaway Supersoft, some of the Maxfli's AND most of the mint / almost mint second-life-water-whatever-balls: balls which are almost new / a ball looks like after the second or third hole for half of the price? Definitely worth a though!

Every "tour" ball is overpriced. We are all idiots for enabling it. Does any other sport have such a wide discrepancy on what is a legal and playable ball? No. They all play with the same ball and nobody ever bitches about it. (Except Patriot haters).
The other sports you imply are team sports where a single ball in play is inherently part of the basic rules. A better individual ball sport that would be more comparable to golf would be bowling (where competitors use different balls which are regulated by a rule keeping governing body just like golf).

The USGA regulations on conforming balls are quantifiable just like any other ball sport, so I am not sure about the "wide discrepancy" reference.
