I work as a Ball fitting technician. I have done over 5,900 fittings over the last 2 years. At the courses we go to, I always offer the Head Professionals if they would like to be fit into the ball that best fits them from whichever company they are on staff with. (I feel like this helps them understand what we do a little better, and they allowed us to work at their course for a day, so why not?) I can think of maybe twice where the ProV1 launched lower than the X. Almost every single time, the ProV1 launched higher than the X.

Hence the reason I said "In my personal experience as a fitter". My views are my own crafted through a high amount of experience, and are not affixed to any company tagline.

I will go with the fitter. With that extensive testing of real world scenarios and not a robot hitting perfect shots every time and considering it is a direct comparison test, I am willing to take the data rather than the marketing.

Just my personal view. To each his own.

I realized I sounded a bit like a richard. My point was that it appears the X and V1 have swapped from previous versions. I don't doubt that previous versions of the X flew lower.

I have had the 2015 versions of both balls since the week before the PGA show, and the Prototype ProV1X since September of last year. In the small sample size that I have had with the new versions, I can honestly say I can't tell a difference, performance wise, between this version and the former. Feedback I have got is that the new balls have a softer cover than the previous iteration, allowing for a touch more green side and wedge spin. Launch and backspin numbers really have not changed at all (in my small sample size)

Here is the last thing I will say. Please don't think I am calling Titleist dishonest by refuting their claim. I have no doubt that when they do testing with an Iron Byron or with Tour professionals these claims are accurate. The people I deal with on a daily basis are neither tour players nor golfing robots, however, and tend to miss dead center more often than hit it. With real, everyday golfers and real fittings with solid numbers, what I have stated previously is what I have come to find true for 97% of the golfing public.

Just thyne two Abe Lincon's.

My pro told me the same thing. I am a low ball hitter with a swing speed of 96-98 mph. He told me I would benefit more from the regular V1 after some launch monitor work because I was launching the V1 higher and would have a bit more spin to keep the ball in the air longer for more distance. My index is 6.1 and I was surprised because Titleist claims the higher launching ball is the V1X.

Sounds like I'll have to test out both versions of the new ball.

The absolute best thing to do is get a sleeve of each and go play a captains choice with just yourself. I have been a pro v1x player for years. Im also a high ball hitter and no pro by any means. However to me and what I was seeing doing this experiment the pro v1x was defentley launching higher off all clubs. I will be switching to the black number this year. Also fwiw I did a driver comparison on a launch monitor yesterday and the pro v1 consistently launched 1° to 2° lower then the pro v1x. Spin rates where within 100 rpms of each other.

-Taylormade BRNR 11.5* set at 9.5* Ventus Red TR 7X playing 44.25”
-Mizuno STz 230 hybrid 16* set at 15* Ventus Blue 8X

-Titleist Vokey SM9 50F set to 51*, 56D, & 62M set to 61*

Ugh... You are one of THOSE people that differentiates the ProV models by number color. I loathe people like you. :P

None of us should give a crap what Titleist or anyone else says. It should be a choice based upon the ball reaction that we see on the course. I launch the V1X higher with the driver than the V1, and the V1X is a bit longer (5-10 yds) off the tee. But add a moderate head wind and the V1 will climb higher than the V1X because of the added spin rate ..... especially with the irons.

As a 14 handicap, I am not surgically dissecting the course by any means. When I get Titleist balls for Xmas/birthdays I definitely notice differences between the two.

The prov1 is shorter of the driver for me and spins a lot on iron and wedge shots. I believe this ball's spin elevates it higher and can kill distance.

Prov1x seems like its more penetrating and doesn't spin as much on the green. I launch the ball pretty high and use that to hold greens, so I prefer this ball versus the other.
