"Used" Golf balls worth it?

I have been going to golf shows in my area and noticed a lot of recycled balls? Prov1's for $20. Worth it or kinda pointless?

My opinion is they are basically the same as new balls. Make sure they are recycled and not refurbished.

Have had great success with recycled.

I've had very good luck with a local recycling company. I pay $18.00 a dozen for Pro V1x's that have logos, or some ink stains on them.
Seem to get the same distance and spin on the green as new ones.

Totally worth it. I've bough ProVs from KNet and Lostgolfballs for years and you can tell little to no difference performance-wise between used and brand new balls. My wallet can tell a BIG difference though!

I have bought recycled from lostgolfballs with great results. I only buy the highest grade though. My last order was 2 dozen of ProV1x and every ball looked brand new. Some had some logos/personalization, but I don't care about that. It is a great way to save money.

You never know if it has been sitting in water. One month in water a prov1 lost about 2% distance. They also use harsh clearners, the sticky top coat loses its "stickyness". Sun (uv rays) distroy most bridgestone balls, they look as if they have been sitting half in dirty water, but they are sun burned. Non-urathan covered balls do best.

[/quote]Be careful with Refurbs...If they use any kind of paint to make the ball look new again it can fill in the dimples on the ball and ruin the aerodynamics of the ball.

It depends: if you buy in bulk, this may work for you but pay attention to their grading scales. I prefer to purchase logo overrun balls because I don't purchase in bulk. If I buy a used dozen and have it shipped, then the price is a wash (no savings).

I never buy anything that was probably kept an inch or two away from some other dude's junk.

anyone look to buy new or mint balls labeled PRACTICE. other than having this printed on the side, they seem to be same quality and really great prices. some come straight from professional events when used on range once.

Just stay clear from refurbished balls and you should be fine. The ones I've had seem to deteriorate very quickly and some of them feel like someone put the Titleist and ProV1 logos on a Rock Flite etc.

Really? From the Tour? Where did you get that info?

Titleist sellls NEW balls marked "Practice" but in over 40 years I have never seen them offer used balls for sale to the public.

Where can I find good deals on logo over runs or Practice/X-outs.

lostgolfball.com stuff, sure. Refirb? Nope.

ebay usually has practice balls....some good deals on there at the right times.

I only play recycled balls, but don't play any balls that have been submerged in water. Contrary to most people, I actually enjoy playing "refinished" balls since I don't see any performance difference. But if you're a little hesitant to buy any used balls, but still want to save a little money, I suggest buying X-Outs or Practice balls. They perform just as new but have cosmetic defects only the manufacturers can detect, but to a layman like me, I don't see any visible defects.

That is TERRIBLY BAD information.

Balls marked "PRACTICE" are wearing the cosmetic defects that you mention and are perfectly acceptable for serious play if desired. Balls that are "X-OUTS" are balls that have definite deformations such as off centered cores, uneven covers, gaps in the mantle layers, and can also be too heavy or too light. Even though on the Titleist website (as one example) they say that "most" X-OUT balls are likely fine for play they are still vague at best and have gone to the trouble to differentiate between the 2 balls. I have relatives that worked for Titleist for many years and they say that the X-OUT balls are questionable 99% of the time. I wouldn't suggest that anyone who wants reasonable consistency out of a ball resort to playing X-OUT balls on a regular basis. I'm likely one of the most picky players when it comes to the condition of the ball I'm playing. I would have no problems putting a Practice ball into play but knowing what I do, an X-OUT isn't an option for me.

I've got a few dozen Nike one tour d practice balls (get them locally) and as stated they play like a normal ball to be honest. I play them on the course all the time and don't notice any difference but x outs are a completely different ball and will not perform as desired.
