Best Callaway non-pro version?

x-14 pro gets nod; what about others
I know that the X-14 Pro's seem to be this forum's favorite Callaway iron ever made. I ended up hitting them and think I like them. Net/net, found an incredible deal on Ebay for a set (3-pw, CW Rifle regulars) for $165 shipped!! No brainer. Should arrive this week.

However, I am not convinced that I can get away with the lack of offset, or maybe I'm just too damn used to my X-12 shovels. Anyway, what would you folks say is the best non-pro series Callaway iron out there....the X-14 regualr series (of course, much different than its pro counterpart, so correlation may not exist)? Thx,
Ted

what makes you think you can't get away with having less offset? the x14 pros are very easy to hit and i'm sure with a little practice you will be fine. it would be worth the practice for you to try and be able to hit those, they should make you a better player. True you need more discipline to hit them, but aren't we all triving to get better?

I knew you'd say that.

I will definitely give them some time. I may have made a slight mistake with the shafts, not only since they are rifle regulars (although Cally's bore-thru tends to make a shaft play a little stiffer, I think) but I'm used to feeling the head on my X-12's (with a lighter weight shaft). I like the heavier swingweight cuz I'm too slappy/wristy/flippy as it is. I'm moving from an arms-based swing to a more rotational swing and I need all the help I can get to keep the hands/arms back. Wonder if a dab of lead tape is all that might be needed, as opposed to reshafting them. Other option is eventually resell them on Ebay and try for a set with CW uniflex if I don't like this setup. Couldn't pass on the $ deal though.

Ted, are you really in Maui? I saw that Kapalua logo? If you are, i'm so jealous. I've been to Maui twice and each time I thought arrived in Heaven. I also went from the x12s once to the x14 pros and had no problem with the adjustment, granted I might be a better player than you, who knows. I think with some practice you will be fine.

No, it's just my favorite course. I've had the opportunity to play it several times on trips to Hawaii. I live FAR from Maui.....Cleveland, OH.

I am a 10-11, moving from a two plane arms-driven swing to a rotational core-driven one (some call it one plane but I'm not sure that is accurate). I need to get my arms/hands out of the equation and it is very tough right now. That little extra offset helps the delay, but I know I need to get rid of it. Thanks for the help.
