Phil using Srixon balls??

I am watching Phil on the range and they show a close up of him hitting Srixon balls. I know in these events these guys use the balls the play on the range. Has he changed I Srixon balls? Anyone know?

I highly doubt Phil would be using Srixon balls during his round.

I was waiting to see if anyone else saw it and would post it too. It's interesting that he would use a different ball considering he is such a feel player

Range probably only provided pro v or srixon this week. I don't think the pros bring there own batch haha

I have been to and played in these event usually the company provides range balls for their players every week. The Web.com event I played in have a table of balls from every company and they were separated by type of ball from each company. So I am sure they would have the same on the PGA Tour

Correct. I volunteer at the Travelers Championship and all the ball companies provide their own balls. Normally Caddies will come to the table and grab the balls their player uses on the course. They have Nike, Taylormade, Srixon, Callaway, and Titleist. Also their are different models to choose from. Example Pro v1 vs. Pro v1x

He is trying to get a feel for another ball as preparation of for the 2016 Ryder Cup Alternate shot with Keegan Bradly. Given all the over reaction of US about the Ryder cup, this might not be such an outlandish idea.

I realize WRX people, myself included, get a little obsessive about gear pros use and because they are paid, and in this case quite well, this seems meaningful but to me this would be noteworthy if this were a practice round or range session where he's working on things. But he's just warming up here right? I mean it's Phil. I don't think hitting a bucket of yellow balls with "range" on them just to get ready for a round would bother him all that much.

Still strange. But wouldn't look too much into it.

That being said, there are an absurd amount of choices of balls available at the range though...so it would seem one would have to make the choice not to choose a certain ball rather than just picking up what is convenient.

Or maybe he pumped all his callaways are on the range so he just grabbed . Don't read too much into it

Maybe testing to give feedback to Callaway on Spin Skin 2, or perhaps Callaway only had SR3 balls at the range and Phil found the next closest ball to the Chrome to practice with?

I didn't see the coverage but unless he was actually hitting them and they weren't just in front of him, they might have been left over by whichever Srixon player hit in his spot before he got there and the range volunteers didn't pick them up

But, the ball that changed the ball....

Those were left over from the previous guy, I'd wager.

Phil doesn't do anything for free (Remember the Super Stroke extortion two years ago).

His caddie was tossing them to him and he was teeing them up

Maybe he was practising with a harder ball to fine tune his swing and to make himself think he is hitting it better when he gets on ciurse and starts hitting the CS? A bit like the theory that practsing with blades mames yku a better ball striker.

Lol I noticed that too, kinda funny but I'm sure there is a reasonable explanation like they were left there or someone just indiscriminately grabbed a warm up bucket.

Most of the time the simplest answer is the right answer.... not given a choice, he took the balls that were readily available.

Nope

In news that actually matters he appears to be putting well this week, it was getting harry there for a while inside ten feet. Hopefully he plays well the last two rounds it's always fun when he's in the hunt.

Dug up an old X Tour forged wedge with the "PM" grind in honor of him making the cut this week and I'm gonna take it to the range with me tomorrow. Phil and I have an odd relationship, I love it when he does terrible but I'm equally thrilled when he plays well.

I like the Keegan alternate shot conspiracy theory, this was probably task forced mandated...I bet Keegs warmed up with Phil balls too....

Yah, right. Phil shows up on the range and starts hitting leftover balls like some range rat trying to save $8. Uh, no.

I don't know what the reason was--but it wasn't because he didn't bother to have Bones walk 50 yards to get him a fresh bag of Callaways.

Maybe the Callaway van was parked in a flooded area and was inaccessible after the rains...
Maybe the Callaway techs were delayed getting to the course to open up the van on time...
Maybe the Cleveland van was open and one professional helped out another professional...

Hopefully, Phil only gets to watch the next RC on TV like the rest of us. The US needs a win someday.......

The van does not usually supply the balls - they are shipped to the range and volunteers pick them and keep them separated.
