Your pick for a trip to play one good course multiple times(Florida)

Recommended Posts

I'm looking to do a few days in Florida where I can just stay on a resort with a decent course with a range that is included. Rather than play multiple courses I'd just like to play the same place for a few days and be able to practice as much as I want. Not looking to spend a fortune on something exclusive, just a decent place with a good practice area which most will have anyway.

Just looking for preferences from those pretty familiar with Florida golf, but I'm open to anywhere that will have some temps above 75*.

Although I do want to go spend a weekend at OCN soon, I wouldn't call it a resort. The on-site rooms are meant for golfers, no real extra's like a pool. But it does have a nice range and I do love the courses.

Another option that won't kill the budget would be PGA Village in Port St Lucie which is about 30 min north of Palm Beach. Three very good courses and with a great range right next door. No on-site housing but hotels and condo's next door.

There are numerous resorts with multiple courses, e.g. Reunion, Doral. Any reason you want to limit yourself?

World Woods about an hour and 15 minutes north of Tampa airport. 2 18 hole courses and awesome practice areas and facilities. This place is remote but well worth it for a total immersion into a great golf experience.

World Woods is not really a resort and there is not much to do nearby other than the golf, but it is good golf at a good price.

If you are looking for a real resort with swimming pools and other amenities, consider, Bay Hill, Doral, Innisbrook, Reunion,Mission Inn or Grand Cypress.

Well I just made a trip last week and we bounced around to different courses. It was cool to see different places but it was chaos driving somewhere new every day, finding a breakfast spot and being on time while the GPS can't figure out Florida highways.

This time I'm shooting down there solo and all I want to do it roll out of bed, shower, eat, walk downstairs, golf.

My vote is for Orange County National. 2 great courses, par 3 course, and one of the best practice areas I have seen. There is a restaurant on site too. Like was earlier said its not a 5 star resort but the rooms are adequate. The golf is top notch. If you looking to eat, sleep, golf its a great place to do that.

No, I completely understand the desire to stay at one place. I was questioning the "one course" directive, given that numerous Florida resorts have multiple courses.

Hammock beach....on the ocean about an hour south of Jacksonville....have played the Ocean course (designed by Jack) twice and it's awesome...they also have another called the sanctuary (Watson) that is supposed to be great....just hard to turn down the views of the water on the ocean course....

Played OCN a ton and it's the best 2 tracks near Orlando in my opinion althought I haven't been to reunion yet....

Champions gate has been rough for me...been there 3 times and all three I felt over charged for the conditions and service...courses were ok....

I played both HB courses last month. The main problem with HB is that the Conservatory course (not Sanctuary) is not on the property. It's a 15 minute drive away. 'Not the end of the world, but it's not quite roll-out-of-bed-and-hit-the-course. Also, the restaurant didn't open until 7 am, which is a no-no if you have an early morning round. Perhaps they open earlier later in the year.

The views on the Ocean course are OK, but I was expecting more of a Kiawah Island type layout. The Ocean course at HB has 2 holes running along the beach (9 and 18), and two par 3 greens along the beach (8 and 17). The remainder of the course is inland.

I actually liked the Conservatory course better.

Just returned from Naples and if it fits your price point I would recommend Rookery on Marco Island. Owned by Marriott so you can also play Hammock Bay another fantastic course. Course, facility and service were top notch. Weather is hard to beat in So. Fla. May be more money but worth it in my opinion.

On a Budget:
Coral Springs Marriott/Heron Bay

I stayed there when Heron Bay was a TPC Course that hosted the Honda Classic. Conditions were great and the greens ran fast.

A little pricey:
Orlando Grand Lakes/Ritz Carlton GC
Great location if you want to add other adventures/courses to the itinerary.

Hammock Beach is good, but pricy. Both golf courses are quite good, but I thought the food was overpriced and not very good.

I haven't been there so don't have first-hand experience, but I have heard nice things about Mission Inn northwest of Orlando. Seems to fit your requirements nicely.

Outside of FL, you might consider Callaway Gardens in GA. They have two courses, but the Mountain View is the clear superior and is a really good test - hosted a Tour event in the 90s. It's about 90 minutes SW of Atlanta, so not really close to a major airport. Lodgings are decent and not crazy-expensive. Weather should be very pleasant from here on. Also, they recently put a lot of $ into their practice facility, so you should be covered there, too.

Another place I've heard good things about, Dancing Rabbit in Mississippi, has rooms right in the clubhouse, too.
