Torn between these two sets. I would think performance would prety close.

The finish issues reported with the Apex Pros concern me somewhat.

Who has played both and which did you prefer and why?

Looks and durability wise I would say AP2. Performance wise the Apex Pros won in absolutely every category for me when testing with the same shaft.

I tested out both and went with AP2s. Apex's felt a bit dead to me. Plus I prefer the chrome look over satin. At the end of the day the performance is similar so it comes down to preference.

I haven't played both, but did test them extensivley before buying my I25's. I got the same numbers with the 2 sets. The AP2's are crazy forgivness wise for their size I felt. I could hit them really consistent. The Apex were softer and a bit longer of the two on occasion. I personally like the way the APEX pros wear. It gives them character. Thats one theing I don't like about my I25/G25 combo, I've got allot of range time and rounds on them with very little wear. You can see the wear spot when the sun hits them right.

All that said, my head would go with AP2's if I had a chance to do it all over again.

Have AP2's and tested the Apex Pro's a lot with the same shaft.. I stayed with the 714 AP2's because they are just a better club for working the ball, flighting aspects. they are just a better all around when really tested. The hard part I had, you need the right shaft for your game with the AP2's but once you do they are damn long...just get fitted correctly for them

The part I did find interesting on these Calloway's...7 Iron: AP2 34 degrees..... Apex Pro 33 Degrees. It seems to be the only Calloway that is near the others in loft.

I am just making the change from 712 AP2 to the Apex Pros. I have tested them both on the L/M and the Apex Pros are just longer so to ME that means hitting a higher launching/shorter iron into a green.

I've never been able to get along with a Callaway club of any kind. Whether it looks good or not, they just don't seem to perform well for me. I've got 714Ap2's in my bag and they aren't going anywhere for a very long time.

I played the AP2s for the last year. I loved the looks and they were very forgiving for a "players" iron. I played them very well but got tired of being a club short of what I wanted. If they were 5-10 yards longer they'd be perfect. (I did get fitted) I recently switched to the Callaway Apex irons and am pretty happy with them so far. I might try the Apex pros eventually, but the XR pros might be worth looking at now.

I have demo'd both. Hit the Apex Pro way too low. I was a bit surprised actually. The AP2s however are in the running with the PING i25 and Mizuno JPX 850 Forged to go in my bag this year.

Had a fitting at a club champion a while back and hit a lot of irons. These two sets were the sets I hit the best by far. AP2s were slightly longer and the apex pro had a slightly tighter dispersion. It was really a coin toss for me and you can't go wrong with either set. I ended up choosing the AP2 mainly because I liked the look a little better and my best shots with the AP2 were my last few so that was fresh in my mind.

I also had a fitting at Club Champion in Downtown Chicago about a year ago and essentially had narrowed it down to these two irons... found that, for me, the Apex Pro was a couple yards longer (I think Trackman #'s said it was 8-10 more yards carry) and both were equally accurate. For me, the combination of the added distance, feel of the irons, and head weight (right or wrong the Apex Pro's felt a little bit heavier) the was enough to finally pull me into a Callaway set.

MP15s feel better, AP2s are a little more forgiving. No upgrade with Mizuno for steel shafts.

Huh, I must be getting old and going blind......I didn't see MP15 in the title or as an option in the OP's poll.

I have to say that I am currently torn as well. I really want the Apex pros, but the smith I frequent is trying to push the XR's to the point where I don't think I can trust him to fit me right. I can't stand how click-ey they are. I feel the same way about the AP2's. I think Im going to head from smith to smith to smith now until I find one that says lets do this when I ask him to fit me in a set of pro's

I hit everything that comes out, since I work at a GG, and what I have found is that there are many good irons out there...but between the Apex Pro and the AP2, the biggest difference cited by customers buying the Apex Pro over AP2 was overall feedback...they could tell where they missed the ball on the face much easier, without being harsh, compared to the AP2 that felt really good on center hits, and really good on mishits that cost 5-8 yards also.

AP2 are great irons but if I have one gripe it's that they spin too much for my game and most players. I found the Apex Pro to be longer by 5-8 yards and much easier to "flight."

Love my Apex Pro out of the rough!! Still easy to hit and control. But any iron out of the rough is about the same if near same size, but I will take the bounce on the Apex Pro over the AP2 all day.

Apex Pro start at 3* in the 3 iron and go up 1* all the to the 9 and PW being at 9* each. more playable from more conditions for the avg player of these irons.

Well I looked at them again today, Apex Pro/AP2/MP15s. Apex pro set up much nice at address and sole is thinner compared to AP2 so I ruled the AP2 out. I really really like the MP15s being a former Mizuno guy and want to get a set I'm happy with. Price is also a factor - there is a $400 dollar difference in favor of the Apex pros (3-PW plus 2 MD2 wedges LIKE NEW from Cally preowned vs MP15s 3-PW plus 2 MP-T5 wedges) and $275 dollar difference in favor of the Apex vs AP2s (3-PW w/Tour V WITHOUT and wedges) For $100 difference I'd get what I really want but $275-$400 is significant.
