Honeymoon Location......with activities besides golf

My fiancé and I are getting married in September and are looking to honeymoon next summer. I'm interested to hear to golf related spots that have other offerings as well. My initial thoughts are Kiawah, Pebble and Sea Island.

Let me know any positive or negative experiences.......about the trip, not the marriage

Have you considered Hawaii? We went to Maui for our honeymoon, which was great, but REALLY enjoyed Kuaii this last May. The Carribbean also has golf courses, but I think the quality of golf in Hawaii will far exceed the Carribean.

The Monterrey Peninsula is nice, but i'm not sure it's a full week destination. Of course you could do San Francisco and Monterrey.

Sea Island is very nice, but I always though of it as more of a families and older couples resort (I could be wrong there).

Hilton Head, and in particular Sea Pines and the Inn at Harbour Town are great if you want to stay in the U.S.

Puerto Rico also has some nice options if you wanted to go off the mainland. I've been to the Rio Grande area near El Yunque and enjoyed my time quite a bit.

Cant speak to the others, but will endorse the Hawaii suggestion above. Went to Oahu and Kauai in October for my honeymoon. Beautiful uncrowded courses, and there is no shortage of activities there.

Boy, I [b][u]strongly[/u][/b] disagree that the Monterey Peninsula can't be a week-long destination. My wife and I were out there last spring, and we could've stayed for a month. It's tremendous. The scenery, outdoor activities (e.g., hiking), food, and everything else is out of this world. And of course the golf is ridiculous. My wife also really loved the spa at Pebble Beach, despite the fact that she's not the ultra-girly type. Honestly, in hindsight, I wish I'd gone to the spa too. It would be a fantastic honeymoon destination.

You should also set aside at least a couple of days to spend in San Francisco, and that takes some of the pressure off filling a week's itinerary in Monterey.

We actually considered Hawaii prior to deciding on Monterey, but California was much more economical (even on Pebble Beach prices). And as far as I can tell, the golf is better too. I played Pebble, Spanish Bay, and Carmel Valley Ranch, and I wish I'd had another week to play some more.

Seriously, you'll thank me later. Golf isn't as good as the places you listed, but as far as a honeymoon there isn't anywhere nicer. It was recently rated the best adults only all inclusive in the Carribean. 5 stars all the way. My wife and I went there for our honeymoon last year. We took the free unlimited golf package and played 6 rounds. 2 different Jack courses, one with 27 holes. All inclusive on the course too. Best food I ever had at a resort. Hell, best everything.

I guess that I am just a old fart, but who is interested in playing golf on a honeymoon. LOL

My wife loves it as much as I do so a golf honeymoon was a no brainer. Besides, how many days in a row can you sit by the pool from dawn until dusk?

Bahamas - we went for our honeymoon/wedding...i'd suggest paradise island - we went to Sandals Great Exuma and while there were things to do, there werent as much as sandals in paradise island. also, grand antigua is gorgeous.

Golf would be the last thing on my mind for a honeymoon...

My wife and I honeymooned in Arizona. Plenty of good golf, but the Grand Canyon, Flagstaff and Sedona make for a terrific chance for varied activities.

Was thinking the same thing. The wife and I have been twice and will go again.

we went to Ireland for our honeymoon. Got a car and checked out the west. Played 4 rounds and my wife is not all that into golf. She had never been to Europe and really loved the adventure. It was great to explore together.

like Layingfive, my vote's for Monterey, with a few days in San Francisco. My wife and I had a great vacation in SF, and I've also

[size=4]Monterey's strengths: it's in the continental US,[/size][size=4] beautiful and easy to get around, [/size][size=4]you can drink the water, & the weather's generally pretty temperate. (The golf is obviously pretty special.)[/size]

Never been to Kiawah or Georgia.

Let us not let this thread pass from memory before observing, for the record, that golf is no longer the only physical activity concerning which GolfWRX posters clearly embellish their own abilities.

We went to Wild Dunes almost 21 years ago. The Charleston area is really nice. Great beaches, great restaurants, and a beautiful city.We have been back many times. Wild Dunes, Kiawah, I don't think you can go wrong in the Charleston area.

I can't even imagine golf and honeymoon together... unless your bride shares your passion.

That being said, if Mrs Saluki was an LPGA member 25 years ago, and wanted to play golf during our Honeymoon, I would have looked at the following:

No Brainer - Hawaii (especially Kauai)
On the Cheap - Emerald Coast/Alabama Coast
Exotic - Scotland or perhaps Ireland
Even More Exotic - Spain or Portugal
More Money And Time Than I Deserved At That Age - New Zealand and/or Australia

Maui. One of the most beautiful places on the planet, with pretty good golf and plenty of other stuff to do. Perfect for a honeymoon.

Not for everyone but my wife and I honeymooned in Vegas, neither of us had been before. So much to do it's ridiculous. Plus I added golf thanks to a generous gift earmarked specifically for playing Shadow Creek.

Vegas. Party, drink, eat, entertainment, golf, hiking, exploring, and fantastic deals abound.

I will go with all of the Hawaii suggestions. My wife and I stayed and played on Kaanapali beach in Maui, the course was nice and there is plenty to do in Maui to keep you entertained.
