Henry Griffitts VS Edel Irons

glensmithis

Recommended Posts

I am on the fence and torn between Henry Griffitts or Edel irons. I am currently playing custom Mizuno MP-69's. Length, loft and lie have all been adjusted to fit me. Granted, I was only a 30 minute fitting with trackman, but at least it was something. I have a custom fit Edel putter and am pretty sure that I am going with Edel wedges and H-G woods, I am just not sure about the irons. Has anyone gone through either of the fitting processes and/or hit either of their irons?

Thanks in advance for all of your advice and thoughts.

I played HG many years ago. The fitting process I went through was very in depth but I don't know if all fitters are that way with the brand or I got lucky. I struggled not really knowing flex of shaft since they go by a color code shaft system. If you don't mind spending the money on clubs few people know about and even fewer have tried go for it.

Have the Edel putter, wedges, and irons.

I went through an extensive fitting for the irons with my fitter (Jon Sinclair in Euless, TX) ... Trackman, shafts, swing weight, length, lie, which bounce, grip/size, etc. Hit the "best" options.

Ended up with the Edel CB and Recoil 95.

Happy. Love the irons.

Don't need to worry about irons, wedges, putter.

Found one brand woods/hybrids for consistency - Callaway V Series worked for me, and an XR Hybrid.

Good luck.

Swingman...

I have read several of your posts on here. You are part of the reason that I pulled the trigger on an Edel putter. THANKS FOR THAT!!!!! I was fit by Matt Jones at Northwestern University (GREAT experience). The Henry-Griffiths T12 irons are beautiful blades but, I really understand and tend to agree with the "bounce theories" of Edel. This is why I am torn. Oh, and the H-G woods are AWESOME. Hence the dilemma... Now, did you choose the CB's or were they just a better fit than the Edel blades?

You made the choice that fits you. Congrats.

I played it safe with the CB's. I might get 8-PW in the Blades later... might. The Edel CB's are performers. They look better in person and finished than in pics.

Jon has a mixed set of Edel CB's and Blades -- beauties. He lets them rust out.

The Edels really go through the turf better than anything I've owned or hit. I think it's the holistic process of fitting that does it.

Jon and I were talking about the toll that clubs take on your body. He was telling me about a slo-mo vid he saw on the effect of bounce, not only about the club going through the turf, but the long term effects of not having the right bounce on your body/joints. He said it was a revelation on the importance of bounce for the longevity of your game.

Take it from there...

Swingman,

May I ask, what clubs were you playing before? Have you seen noticeable differences since the switch to Edel? What were the differences? I see that you are a 9 handicap, so, you are a player like me. I hope I am not too much of a bother...

I played Miura PP-9003 Irons and K Grind Wedges before playing Edel.

The change was really all about the grind -- I can use the Edel wedges for a larger variety of shots from tough lies - they do not limit you as Miura, and even Vokey did.

As to the irons, the Edel go through the turf more easily - less wear and tear on the body and cleaner shots.

Swingman,

So, you went from cavity to cavity. I have played blades since my old Taylor Made Tour Preferred days (late 80's). Edel makes blades too, they just aren't on his web site. Anyway, thanks for all of your input. I am planning on hitting them when I get fit for the wedges. Knowing me, I will love them and end up with the whole set. I am REALLY intrigued with the punch dots versus grooves, I want to see some actual launch monitor numbers. Oh, and I absolutely LOVE the black PVD finish.

Yep, try a mixed set. Jon Sinclair enjoys his CB-Blade set.

I am not concerned about the brand, it is more about consistent results. Why have you moved away from using the H-G clubs?
