Removing new grips to reuse

i wish i could explain it better. but someone at work used this bottle that had an attatchment for a really sharp needle on the end. he stuck the needle in the side of the grip at an angle and sprayed the fluid inside. after a few squirts, it loosened up the grip and you could take it off.

Be VERY careful with grip solvent and Needles. It really damages tissue, big time. Like lose a chunk of your hand big time - because the tissue is necrotic type damages.

i use a spray bottle filled with grip salvent with a needle. stick a tee in the top hole of the grip and stick the needle below it pointing down the shaft. spray it until the grip solvant comes out the bottom and you got yourself a free grip

A teaching professional I use to see used a syringe filled with petrol to remove a grip off a Scotty Cameron for me. Not sure if this is the best way or not.

I have done it using hypo dermic needles and srhringes filled with gas. It works but its messy as hell.

I have heard that pro repair shops use air pressure. From what I understand they cover the grip area with the cardboard from and old role of paper towels.

Then stick the air thing in the small hole at the end of the grip and blow it off.

I have never tried it or seen it done , but thats a general idea of how they do it.

Can't that stretch/bust the grips though?

Thats why you use a cardboard tube or pvc pipe around it to keep the grip from stretching too much

using the metal rod works but it stretches the grip and is a real pain in the butt to get the grips off! Invest in the needle!

The GolfWorks v-tool works effectively once you get the hang of it. It's works best on Tour Velvet type grips and does not work well for a grip like a Winn AVS or a Gripmaster.

I use a cheapo air compressor that is made to fill car tyres, I just attach a needle for a sports ball (football, soccer etc) and shove it in the end, let the pressure build and slide it off.

Sometimes it will balloon in parts of the grip, but aslong as you can keep pressure on the buldge it should stop it.

The air compressor method works great but it does take a little patience..I use 30-40 psi and it works most of the time...Sometimes 50-60 psi on stubborn grips...I don't use a tube...I'm very careful and patient with it so as not to balloon the grip....The hypodermic needle works very well but it is a mess

I would recommend that you stay away from needles filled with grip solvent.

Solvent injected into your hands will do permanent damage to your tissue - sort of like a necrotic flesh eating disease...

Not worth it for a $2 grip.

off topic...but i have never heard of solvent causing tissue problems?!?! How is that different from getting solvent in a cut or scratch? Maybe a dumb question so I apoligize before hand if so!

As Dyno mentioned, I can personally attest to the danger of the metal can/needle method of grip removal. I had a slip on just one occassion...the needle went in to my hand...the solvent followed. The ER doctor told me the only other time he saw such tissue damage was from napalm burns when he was in VietNam. I was in the hospital for 2 weeks with the possibility of losing the hand...

All is well now, but the only way I'll try to save a grip is with an air compressor - but I'll do whatever I can to suggest a new grip in the first place!
