So im assembling a putter and need to know what kind of adhesive to use on the hosel

Dr.Foo's glue, the only epoxy that designed for golf clubs.

any type of epxy will work. just make sure to roughen up the shaft tip first. when you get to doing irons and woods, then you have to worry about the strength. with a putter almost anytype of epoxy will work. that is unless you get bored and decide to hit your putter off the tee when you think nobody is looking :D

p.s. dont hit your putter off the tee if it is made out of soft stainless steel. my buddy did that and now his cameron has a face angle that is closed more than the tm r7 draw.

Ya, golfsmith has just everything you need, or golf galaxy or etc whatever you have around you. I always just use golfsmiths basic epoxy, two bottles, mix it in a 1:1 ratio. 30 min Curing time, sets up in 18 hours. And you get enough for 100+ clubs for $9.

With the grip tape, just pick up some grip solvent too. You can use lighter fluid or paint thinner as well, but the solvent is pretty cheap, and it does the job minus the fumes.

Golfworks.com sells water activated tape in 10" ready to use strips. Golf Galaxy may have these too. I have used these for the last 3-4 years and have had no problems. No solvent to fool with, just water with a drop or two of dish detergent in a spray bottle works great.

Just go buy a roll of real grip tape. I dont even think normal double sided tape is strong enough, let alone you still would have to use a solvent to get the grip on.

Grip tape doesn't actually hold the grip onto the shaft, it is just there to provide a slippery surface for the grip to slide on. The actual difference between the core of the grip and the shaft diameter and friction is what holds the grip on. Many club makers can install undersized grips by using an air compressor or tons of solvent and no grip tape.

However, for your first regrip job, as mentioned above I'd do things by the book. The two sided tape from golf smith and the no odor solvent makes things much easier. You can experiment once you've got some experience under your belt. :D

Hmm... I never would have guessed that. I guess it makes sense though, the tape really isn't very sticky.

Grip tape absolutely holds grips on shafts.

If you install a .600 core grip on a .600 diameter shaft with air and masking tape, the grip will slip if you have any sort of heavy grip pressure. You can get away with .580 or .590 core "sticky" grips on a .600 diameter shaft with just masking tape, but not all grips will work this way.

We see hundreds of twisted grips a year in our Demo Day regripping specials - and most of these are installed over improper tape, no tape or masking tape and installed with air with incorrect core and shaft diameters.

Grip tape is "activated" with solvent - which means the solvent makes the adhesive on the tape slippery so you can slide the grip on - and then as the solvent dries the "stickum" sticks the grip to the shaft. Some solvents work better than others in this regard, and grip tape uses a special stickum that does not simply wash off with a reasonably amount of solvent.

I don't see the point in not using grip tape anyway, it takes a whole what like 3 minutes to install a grip..
