Playing early morning or afternoon?

What's your preference? Do you like to play early be one of the first groups out when course opens or have a tee time in the afternoon?

I prefer an early round. I don't really know why. I score better in the morning. I think it has to do with my fatigue levels in the afternoon vs being fresh in the morning.

Super early like being the first group or 2nd. Living in So. Cal it could be the difference between a 3 and a half hour round vs a 5 hour round. You do get spoiled if you're use to playing early and will less likely tolerate any round pass 4:30 hours long

Early for sure. Not sure why but i never play well in the afternoons and my allergies seem to be especially bad.

Our group likes to play early but more so because we can dictate pace of play and get on with our days afterwards. I probably play better in the afternoon when my body has actually had a chance to wake up and loosen up properly...haha.

I have a young family so I don't have a choice. I have to be home by lunch time or there will be trouble. In Australia early is best in summer and late morning best in winter.

Afternoon for me. I'm not a dew sweeper. Don't like dew on the
course and a wet ball....and I like to be awake when I'm playing.
It takes me a good 5 hours or so to wake up!

With that said I usually play at 9-10 AM cause the guys I play with
prefer that time. If it was up to me noon or later tee time. Best would
be finishing up just before the sun sets. Love that time of day on
the course.

Aeathetically, I like the course early morning.
Performance, I play better in afternoon.

being a poor sleeper I am often first off at whatever course I go too (not a member so just rock up at a course and off I go). I love being out first thing as I can whizz round in about 2 hours and be home for 9am.

I prefer morning so I can spend the rest of the day on chores and projects at home.

There is a downside to playing in the morning. On those occasions that I play later in the day I find drives go noticeably further without the dew.

Depending on your chronotype, hand-eye and energy levels peak at different times during the day for different people.

I'm an afternoon guy myself, useless before lunch time at anything physical. In almost every 36 hole event I've played, my afternoon round is several shots better than the morning one.

S Florida means early or roast. Unfortunately I play much better in the afternoon. I'm talking like 5 or more strokes better. A 2:00 T time is my best time. (least expensive as well) Not sure why that is. At work I am the most productive in the AM and useless after lunch.

Now that I think about it, every round under 80 for me has been after noon.

I prefer to tee off later in the day and play until sunset. If that's not in the cards, then I like to tee off super early. I can't stand teeing off primetime - inevitably I will have to stand around and wait as I play 75-80% of my rounds as a single walking.

I was usually the very first tee time off at my old course (0700). I enjoy the two and half hour rounds but I hated it when I would catch the dew crew.

After I would passed them, I had rooster tails on my putts. However, I had time for another 9 to make up for the iffy conditions.

So, early is better for pace of play but later is better for the course conditions.

Living in Minnesota I prefer late afternoon. I walk and like dry feet and less layers to keep the chills out.

This is me. I much prefer early morning rounds (pace of play, gives me the rest of the afternoon with the family), but I score much better in the afternoon. This is especially true this time of year when it's in the 40's when I tee off. Usually have to hit an extra club or two into greens till it warms up.

I am a morning guy. I don't like the crazy early (7 am) rounds. Ideal for me is 830-9 am

Duration of round being the same ... Highly prefer early afternoon tee times. Family wise, early rounds are the norm. Coffee, Red bull, you name it ... it wakes me up but it takes me 3x as long to loosen up in the morning vs. the afternoon. I've actually stopped playing in a good money game here in town because they are mainly dew sweeper tee times. Not for me at all.

I prefer the early morning for a full round. I work part time at a course and it is some times nice to sneak out late in the day.

Almost exclusive early out except for Men's League. ON sneaky weekdays off, leaves the option for another 18, or 36, or 54.

Afternoon, I'm not a morning person. I will never put up my best score in the morning

I tend to play in the morning because that's when most of my friends will play or when the weekend games at my club start. I would actually prefer to play in the afternoon though because I typically shoot better scores in the afternoon. The reason I play better is because I am fully awake and I like courses that are a bit firmer...

Depends on the course. Normally, I like playing late afternoon. But one course I play a couple of times a year is popular with retirees, so I like to be the first one off there in the morning so I don't have to wait (nothing against retirees, but I'm usually a single, and they are usually foursomes).

Afternoon. If I play early in the morning I usually have something to do afterwards and some place to be, so I feel rushed. In the afternoon, preferably twilight, it's so quiet and peaceful on the course and you can just play a leisurely round. Plus there's no dew, no waiting on mowers or greens keepers, etc.

I prefer the afternoon finishing up with enough to get home for my personal 19th hole and relax as the evening settles in. I also play best with practice in the morning, followed by a casual lunch and then some warm up before teeing off. Afternoon rounds also tend to take between 3 and 3.5 hours on the course I play since the majority of golfers need to be back to the house by early afternoon - one of the advantages of being an empty nester.

If you play early enough you don't have to stop at 18 holes!

If I have an afternoon tee off, I'll usually make an effort to get to the course early to hit the range and putting green to loosen up up and test green speeds.

If it's a early morning tee off, I usually just get there right before tee off (I'm not a morning person).

Not surprisingly, I shoot better in the afternoon.
