It seems immature to me. I know these guys are under a lot of pressure but I just don't think it sets a good example.

Now GET OFF MY LAWN!!!

But if there is anything "good" it's that neither he nor Rory threw their clubs toward anyone else.
I have thrown clubs in disgust but I think that it has place and it doesn't. Depends on situation. But since these aren't getting fined and tgey are playing for more than most will ever make in two lifetimes then let them blow off some steem.

Yeah I will acquiesce that it's completely my own hangup, and not the end of the world. When it happens in my group though it makes me uncomfortable.

run of the mill driver with stock shaft
a couple of outdated hybrids
shovel-ier shovels
wedges from same shovel company
some putter with a dead insert and
a hideous grip

I'd rather see someone just give the cursed club to someone in the gallery, hell of a souvenir! However I'm sure these guys get caught up in the moment, frustration sets in, your playing for lots of money etc.. As long as the club is thrown with the proper kinematic sequence in a direction where there are no people I have no issue with it. If you have kids watching with you, use it as a moment to educate them about controlling your temper haha.

not a big fan of it but bottling up that anger might be worse for their game overall. I can see how letting it all out might allow them to move on and play better.

I did this... HAD a 60 deg wedge and could only manage one type of shot with it, but I always tried more than that. Finally I had enough and gave it to a playing partner. He kept it.....

Like others, I don't get the whole throwing of clubs...

the firey guys should have their caddie wear a focus mitt on one hand. when the blood starts to boil they can give it a lash. lol

they people saying give the club to a kid or whatever really don't understand what's going on in the players head. not everyone is wired the same way. there's no considered thought process here.

I throw clubs every time I go to the range. It's a clever drill to work on grip pressure. Smooth, 15 or so yards with nice trajectory. If you're holding it too tight it doesn't fly right. Then go hit balls. (You should only try this if you're by yourself BTW.)

I've never felt the need to boomerang one while playing, but I have hit the ground in front of me in frustration many times. It doesn't help.

Wonder if the sponsors get upset by it? Like if Callaway gets pissed because they threw their club in the water on national tv?

Thrown many clubs - always had a reason, was never justified. That being said, I can't judge those who do - circumstances are always pretty much irrelevant, as is third party judgment thereof.

In college, a friend threw his sand wedge into a wooded area - not thick woods, just an area with some trees adjacent to a par 5 fairway. Picture a grassed area with trees no closer than 10 feet from each other. Anyway, probably only tossed it 20 yards of so and it didn't even hit any trees. We all saw it, but didn't go get it. Next hole is a 3, with the tee on the other side of the aforementioned wooded area. So, we all decide to go look for the sand wedge while on the next tee. It was just in the grass, but we never found it - looked for like 20 minutes. We looked for it every time we played again, which was like 4-5 times a week, and it basically disappeared.

Garen, if you are somehow a member here, you may recognize this story - the par 5 was henceforth known as Garen's Toss. The habit of looking for that club was so strong that I instinctively did it playing the course again 10 years later.

Hmmm...sorry, guess it was story time.

Edit: if you do read this Garen, hope you are doing well. If memory serves, it was a Taylor made icw11 sand wedge.

It's not exactly a new trend:
Tommy Bolt was notorious for his hot temper, one that drew warnings, reprimands, fines and suspensions. The public came to know him as “Terrible Tempered Tommy” and “Thunder” Bolt. Stories mounted, apocryphal sounding but sworn to as true by those who were there, and legend-making in any event.
There was the time he tossed a driver into a canal in Miami, for example, and it sank so deeply a diver could not retrieve it. And the time he asked for a club recommendation during a particularly frustrating round, and his caddie suggested a 2-iron, a much-too-powerful club for the lie, because it was the only iron left in the bag.
