Options in Birmingham Alabama

Recommended Posts

I live south of town, near Inverness and I'm looking for a course or club to play multiple times a week near me.

Anybody got any particularly strong feelings about Riverchase, Inverness, Eagle Point, or Oak Mountain State park? I have been a member at Altadena Valley Country Club for years.

I'm interested specifically in Riverchase CC, although I wondering if it is walkable. I have emailed the Membership Director and General Manager, but have not gotten any information or numbers on the dues and fees.

Eagle Point Golf Course is also, very close to house but I'm concerned about been able to play since it is public. Do they allow singles? Are you allowed to walk? Push-Cart?

Any thoughts any other Birmingham-area courses would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Are you looking to join a club or just daily fee golf?

Eagle point you can walk as single but depending on the day it gets pretty busy as one of the few public courses that side of town.
Oak Mountain is a nice layout, but greens are hairy and the course does not drain well at all, plus lots of slow public pace there.

Inverness is a nice private track with a lot of clubhouse amenities, similar to riverchase it winds through a neighborhood and a cart is recommended.

Have you considered Hoover Country Club off of 31? It an older layout but definitely walkable and always in great shape.

I know its a bit out of the way from where you live, but definitely look into the annual/platium pass at the RTJ trail.

Riverchase winds through a neighborhood and in my opinion is designed for carts

I walked it once several years ago in a high school golf tournament, and remember several holes with very long walks between holes

I grew up at Riverchase. They layout is good and it's normally in good shape. Fun course to play everyday. There are 2 long walks on the front, from 3 to 4 and from 5 to 6. I have strong calves thanks to walking Riverchase. I miss that place.

Thanks Tmiller72. Is there a shortcut from hwy 31 to the club entrance? Winding through the neighborhood it is a long way back to the club.

Thanks JSunGolfPhamD.

Anyplace that I can go and play golf 4 or 5 times a week (weekdays only) after work. My work schedule is different every day, sometimes I’m done at 1pm other days it might be 7 or 8pm, usually I’m done by 3-4pm. AVCC is near my office so I could go and play 9, visit, hit balls on the range or play 18. Sometimes in the late fall I would play 6 holes before dark.

Hoover CC (great suggestion) was my first choose when I heard AVCC was closing, but they a FULL.

Inverness CC sounds like it might get pricey. They have a membership due and then everything else is just a little extra.

RTJ – is a very nice track. I used to work there as a marshal. With traffic I might not able to get there as much as I would like.

Eagle Point GC is the cheapest with a $1,680 annual pass, but it is public golf and I don’t know the environment. I need to visit it a few times first.

Riverchase CC has not emailed me back other than to say thanks. I guess that I will have to go knock the on their door to find out the fees and such.

I was hoping to find someone here that was a member or regular at one these courses.
