Courses near the Pga Championship

We are going to the practice round on Tuesday, we would like to golf on Wednesday. Any decent courses in the area? Anywhere from kohler south to Milwaukee, etc. we are coming from Chicago, so anywhere on the way back from kohler would be fine.

Here are some suggestions...

1. Erin Hills (i like playing here better than the Straits)
2. The Bull @ PineHurst Farms (if you like Nicklaus)
3. Links Course at Lawsonia (straight west of Kohler)
4. Brown Deer (past GMO course)
5. Brown County (just outside Green Bay)

Have played Lawsonia many times - both Links and Woodlands - was always a great deal. And both give a fun experience.
The price is a steal at $59 weekday with cart - we used to walk and we would get in 36 for under $90 in the Spring. I would have a hard time choosing which to play - you don't even know that the woodlands exists on the property - never played it without having a few deer cross a fairway. Links is fun with the deep pot bunkers, tall fescue, ... - and the railroad car buried under the 8th green (brag, I never missed that green in over a dozen rounds) - bit of Scotland in the middle of Whisky.

Brown Deer is a great course and fairly priced. All the courses Aprenti's list are great. Just before the WI are Shepherds Crook and Thunderhawk.

I think we might stay in lake Geneva and play one of those courses

We are playing The Bull/Whistling/Blackwolf Run in a couple of weeks. I would play Erin Hills if you have the chance given its about to host the U.S. Open. I wouldn't miss out on the opportunity if you are going to be right there.

Erin Hills is my favorite course of all time. But in reality, it is at least an hour out of the way on the trip from or back to Chicago. The Bull at Pinehurst Farms is only about 8-10 miles from The Straits course and is a really nice (and fun) public course. They have a ton of 'deals' if you just call and ask.
