UST V2 tour

Recommended Posts

i had my 761tb pulled out of my driver, was thinking about putting it in a bridgestone j33r 460, or selling it. but i cant just forget about my 983e, so i went to my usual golf shop inquiring about a V2 75. well he didn't have one in stock, but he had a special V2 that was 82 grams and 2.2* torque. he is a ust tour shop and said this is a tour shaft. well knowing the v2 75 is 76 grams and 2.2*torque and the v2 85 is 86 grams and 1.8* torque, i realized thaht this shaft is definitely different. it was $40 more so i said what the hell, put it in. i am expecting good things from this shaft, am i nuts?

I have a UST v2 Tour 86 installed into my Bridgestone J33 3 Wood and it is one of the best shafts that I have ever played in a fairway wood. For me the two matched up perfectly, as 3 wood has always been a problem child so to say for me. That being said it produces a very smooth kick with an excellent trajectory as well.

That being said, if I hadn't had my Z-Com installed in my J33R 460 driver, I would have leaned heavily towards the UST V2 75. Enjoy the shaft it is an excellent shaft for not a lot of $$$.

thanks guys, but its not a v2 86. it is 82g and 2.2* torque. it is not listed on ust website, anyone here a ust tour shop?

That is not a standard Tour Shop shaft.

UST dumped a bunch of "Tour" labelled shafts on the market, including some 41" Hybrid shafts and other non-standard shafts. This may be one of those non-standard shafts.

I'm sure the quality is high, it's just not one of the standard production shafts.

I would certainly not assume these were prototypes built for any of the staff players - that's a huge stretch.

These shafts are much more likley part of the dozens - sometimes hundreds - of prototype shafts build by any shaft company while trying to dial into the specs for the production shaft.

We get offers to purchase these pre-production shafts all the time from many of our shaft suppliers for dirt cheap. A production shaft that retails for $90 might come in a pre-production form to us for $10 or less. We can generally get 80% of the production shaft's price for these - though we also see less scrupulous dealers selling them as "Tour Specials" or some other BS name.

i have seen v2 with proto written on them, but this one had the v2 graphic in the silver area, am i getting burned?

I don't know about burned. The shaft is certainly made with the same quality that goes into their product shafts - assuming it's a .335 tip shaft. The .350 tip shafts use different graphite, resin and construction methods...

It's just not a production shaft.
