True Blue and Caledonia vs. Tidewater and Dunes golf and beach club

So setting final plans and trying to decide between the four courses would be playing 36 and trying to decide which one of the grouping to do. Help me out

where are you staying? and do you mind driving. i have NOT played caledonia or true blue. i have played tidewater and the dunes. im not a big fan of tidewater played it 3-4 times, for some reason it has never caught my eye. i did enjoy the dunes, alot.

if it were me i would play caledonia and true blue simply b/c i havent played them, they are close to each other and mike strantz is my favorite designer.

I have spent summer vacation in MYR for the past 22 years and I have played TB, Cal and TW but not The Dunes. For some reason The Dunes never appealed to me. I would play TB and Cal in that order if you are going to do 36 holes in one day. Both courses are 2nd shot courses but TB has wider fairways. TB has a driving range Cal does not but, if you are playing Cal only you can use the TB driving range. Cal has two of my most favorites holes in MYR: number 10 a par 5 and number 11 a par 3. Cal is the more difficult and the more scenic of the two. TB has some very large greens so to score well you will need to be in the correct quadrant. (MS is my favorite course designer. Including TB & Cal I have played 6 of his designs, the others being the 2 in NC and the 2 in VA.) Both TB and Cal have water on the 18th holes than can come into play.

I would suggest you do a google maps of TB & Cal and use the satellite view to get and idea of the layout of each.

FWIW I have seen many a gator at Cal.

True Blue and Caledonia in the same day is a great outing, we did it a few years ago. Can't go wrong with those 2.

I would choose Tidewater and The Dunes Club.

But I really like True Blue. True Blue is one of my favorite courses around, but if you are not living/staying on the south end of Myrtle Beach, it is a hike to get down there.

I have never played Caledonia. I have heard it is a great course.

I live in Texas and it seems like it is at least a hours drive to get anywhere. I don't mind a hike

TB/Caledonia and it's not even close.

I've played 3 of the 4 (have not played the Dunes Club but hear it's great). That said, Caledonia is probably my favorite course I've played in MB (have played about 10-12 MB courses incl. Tidewater, TPC, Barefoot, and Wild Wing to name a few). There is a certain charm/character about that course that I really like, with some really cool holes (18 comes to mind). I also liked True Blue but it's a totally different course, long and challenging with another really strong 18th hole. I do like Tidewater and it has some great holes, with some phenomenal views. You can't go wrong with either but I think the Caledonia/True Blue combo is really awesome and they are very close to each other which makes 36 in a day quite easy.

you would be hard pressed not to choose the Dunes ..as it's one of the best in Myrtle .... as for Tidewater ... yes it's a good course but Caledonia and True Blue do not have to take a back seat to it .... they are both very good will test your game and unless things have changed Tidewater had one of the highest surcharges of any Myrtle Beach couse and to me i always thought it might be a little overpriced ..... if i was choosing it would be the Dunes and either Caledoina/ True Blue but there is a disadvantage with them being 1/2 hour to 45 minutes driving apart where Caledonia /True Blue are only minutes apart so Caledonia / True Blue are a great choice

I would do 36 one day of TB/CAl and Dunes the next.

Truely i personally given the choices it would be TB/CAL if Dunes and someone else it would be harder choice. Dunes is one AWESOME course.

Went ahead and booked true blue and caledonia for my Sunday round. Then playing barefoot courses twice on Monday and Tuesday. Have one round to fill. Would like to play somewhere in south Myrtle or Charleston. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Heritage is a very fun course, very close to Caledonia - it is very similar to Caledonia. Some like it better.

Agree on Heritage not scheduled on this trip but solid track. Going 11th to 15th.

12th Kings North
13th undecided
14th Caledonia
15th True Blue
Might do Heritage or Tidewater on 13th

I would go w Calendonia and True Blue, both awesome courses

At this point I think we are deciding between tpc and heritage and maybe prestwick

[/quote]Do TPC or Prestwick but like I said in earlier post Heritage is solid choice. At this point throw all three in a hat and pick.

If it matters Heritage will probably be quite a bargain, at least compared to TPC.

Heritage is the most interesting of those three courses, followed by Prestwick and then TPC. All three are good choices, though.

Caledonia/TB is the easy answer to the original question.

Heritage would be my pick to add into your open day - great course, except for the ninth hole (I think its 9, they send off both tees and I get confused). Don't let the starter goad/hassle you into playing a shorter set of tees that you would like or normally play - all those old men down in Myrtle will try, but the ones at Heritage have always seemed extra 'old man grouchy/pushy'.

No brainer, True Blue and Caledonia all day.

Make sure you are staying somewhere on the South end of the strand though. Wouldn't make any sense to stay up in Myrtle or North Myrtle and then playing two courses in Pawleys Island.

If you are asking, skip Kings North. Overrated and too quirky and tricked up.

TPC and Prestwick are in my Top 5 with Caledonia, True Blue and The Dunes Club.

Look at Grande Dunes and Pawleys Plantation as well, both are always in great shape and good experiences.
