Stupidest Ever Name For a Golf Club

In light of some of the discussion about the new Ping "Dragonfly" driver in another section of the forum I thought I'd get people's views on golf club names.

What is stupidest, most unusual or inappropriate golf club name that you can remember?

Plop Slotz irons. Sounds crappy.

I'd hit some plop slotz.

Rocketballs has got to be there somewhere.

"Big Bertha" is far and away the most stupid name for a golf club ever. Nothing else is even close. Some marketing guy got incredibly lucky with that one.

It is like calling a driver "Large Marge" or "Fat Nessie"...quite funny that it is now mentioned without anyone batting an eyelid.

While not the name, Unmetalwood as branding strategy sounds nonsensical. Unmetalwood, so there's no metal? No. There's metal in it. Soooo how is it unmetal then?

Big Bertha got its name from a WW1 era cannon. Dislike it or not, it was catchy and caught golfers' attention, and there was some truth to it in the oversized nature of the club. You couldn't talk about early 90s equipment without people knowing that name, it had a buzz to it.

For me the list begins and ends with the Nike Sasquatch, followed closely by the Nike Sumo. Rocketballz was pretty bad too.

Rocketballz and Sumo. I'm good with Big Bertha as it changed the game for metal woods and was appropriate as an oversized (at the time) club.

Have to agree Sasquatch will be hard to top.

I always thought animal names for clubs like killer whale were a bit hard to take seriously too.

[/quote]The original Big Bertha was a German cannon with the world's longest barrel. You need extra soft balls just to keep that thing from over shooting the target. Sexy, in a Hogan Power Thrust irons kind of way.

Detour might work as a name for a rescue club but for a putter, not so much.

Actually, after consideration, "Power Thrust" has kind of a porn meme built in there. See Sasquatch and Big Bertha starring in "Power Thrust", the Rockerballz will amaze you.

Anyone remember the Gentle Giant infomercial clubs? My ex-brother-in-law had some.....but he was the kind of guy who sent money to super models in Aftrica who wanted to come live with him.
