I saw on their website that this will be released January 2016. Anyone have more info on this camera based technology? Are they measuring Launch angle? More of an instructional device?

Thx man. I'm intrigued. I've been going back and forth between Skytrak and Flightscope Xi but this changes things. May have to wait but January sucks.

This unit will measure club head speed and ball speed (via radar). It will also measure launch angle, azimuth and AOA (via camera).

It "derives" spin/axis somehow, not yet known. I'm assuming they are guessing these values based on AOA and azimuth, but without club path measured it'll be quite the guess.

So Skytrak/Flightscope Xi measure all ball data for $2-2.5k, and this measures LA, azimuth and ball speed for $2.5k-ish.

You do get club head speed and AOA in that price, but who would trade those for lack of spin/spin axis (ie curvature of the ball)?

Flightscope Xi doesn't measure spin though does it? And doesn't Skytrak also give you clubhead speed.

I have heard that this will measure spin directly using the cameras as well as club path at impact. Actual launch angle also.

Where did you hear this? Finding out what this actually measures is going to be driving factor here. Supposedly it will integrate with TGC so they have the sim part covered.

Flightscope does measure spin. Skytrak clubhead speed is displayed, but it is calculated based on ballspeed and estimated smash factor, not measured.

I spoke to the rep from flightscope who told me it does not measure spin rate on the Xi version which is what we are talking about. Only the Xi Tour does which is double the price. Is this correct or false?

I chatted with one of their execs recently and was told that using a combination of doppler technology and the cameras that they would be able to accurately give spin-axis, direction, angle of attack, club face and all of the other key metrics that I was looking for. When I discussed what was measured versus calculated he told me that all data will be based on measurements but that some calculations have to be used for things like spin rate etc.

Meet the new
ES16 Tour
from Ernest Sports

The ES16 does what no other portable launch monitor has done before: combine Doppler radar with camera tracking technology. The unit will provide an array of statistics including the following:

The device can be paired to the Ernest Sports App offering even more capabilities. With a full simulation option, the accuracy and versatility of the ES16 are unmatched.

The ES16 will make its debut at the PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando, Florida January 26th-29th, 2016. Please make plans to stop by booth 1773 to see the unit for yourself.

We are currently in the testing phase of product development and are very pleased with the product. Look for emails in the coming weeks as we have more information to share.

Thank you for your interest in the ES16. It is set to change the golfing world, and we cannot wait to share it with you!

So this is from an email that I got from Ernest Sports

We will be releasing the ES16 at the PGA Show, and we have begun taking $500 deposits. The price is $4000 with $300 for the app, but we are currently in discussions about waiving the cost of the app if a deposit is placed before the end of the show. We are currently in the process of finalizing our negotiations with TGC, so the simulation option should be available by the time the product ships, but again – it has not been finalized at this time. There will be an additional cost for the simulation software, but we are unsure of that at this time.

Which software do you recommend? I have a friend that just bought the ES 16 and wanted to know which is better and most cost efficient between E6 and the TGC. Any and all opinions are welcomed.

Thanks,

Kevin

Anyone have some good experience with the ES16 and can share some more info? I think they are currently $5400 and if it gives all the same data as the more expensive GC Quad, FlightScope X3 or Trackman, I'd definitely be interested. Seems like it was fill a niche between the super high end and junk drawer of $200 products that linger.
