BST Issue 9/22/2015

Below is the transcript of what has occurred over the last 18 days. I offered to buy a Tour AD-DI 7X from someone who was splitting the head and shaft from another club.

What else do you think I should do?

Here is the conversation:

Seller: 9/22 4:58PM: What do you offer for the shaft? I might have someone for head only

GG: 9/22 5:24PM: 125 shipped - I can paypal the money immediately

Seller: 9/22 5:42PM: $145 takes it.

GG: 9/22 5:45PM: Sure, as long as it has a TM adapter. What length is it? What is the paypal account email?

Seller: 9/22 6:00PM: Yeah its the original taylormade sldr metal tip. I will measure the shaft from tip to tip when I get home from work. It played 45 1/2 " installed. Thanks <name redacted>

GG: 9/22 6:24PM: that is fine because I am going to cut it down to 44.5" for accuracy anyway. What is your paypal address?

Seller: 9/28 7:48PM: I am so sorry I was sent away for work, I wont be able to ship it out until next Monday. I just got around to checking emails now. I can refund your payal or if you can wait, I will throw some balls in for the delay. Please advise. Thanks <name redacted>

GG: 9/28 9:42 PM: It happens, instead of the balls can you expedite the shipping? I have a tourney next Friday and need to get it to the club fitter 24 hrs ahead of time to have it swing weighted

Out the seller, ample time to have fulfilled stated claims on multiple occasions.

I am giving them until 2PM EST to correct this. At which time I will put the name out there.

You're too nice. 16 days after you sent the payment and still no resolution.

Personally, it looks to me like he didnt make good on what he said 4 times and is full of excuses. I understand things can get in the way, but he wasnt even on time with the refund. The part I underlined, is what concerns me the most. Why would you spend a buyers money, if you havent even completed your side of the transaction yet. That is what has me a little worried. I mean I wouldnt even pull the money out of paypal and too my bank account until the transaction was done and the buyer was happy....

all of that bank information changing on paypal doesn't look right. File a paypal claim and keep on it!

Wow man, that's ridiculous. What is wrong with people that they can't take a minute to fulfill a request that takes less than a few minutes to do. And why would that person offer you a refund, if the refund isn't even there!? Out that sucker and file a claim, ASAP. It's been more than enough time and by the looks of it, you've been as patient as can be.

PP claim IMO. Let them sort it out and get your refund. At least you know you'll get your refund and you don't have to keep contacting the seller. No more excuses, just your refund.

I am on the phone with the claims representative Ben at Paypal. He just confirmed that they are contacting the seller to handle this.

The username is: AMGMERCY

He went by two different names, one on this site and one associated with his paypal.

When you block someone does it block every comment or just BST comments?

Sorry you had to deal with a dishonest seller Chris. PayPal should make you whole, just keep the pressure on.

You shouldnt block them yet - you need to keep communication open. But when you block someone, the site gives you the option of hiding posts, messages, and a third thing (that I cannot recall). You check what you want hidden.

Edit: The third thing you can block is signature. Not sure the importance of that, but I check it anyhow.

Unfortunately, It happens, but paypal seemed to be really helpful about it. I am more annoyed that I cannot use my SLDR until another shaft comes.

Being someone who gets trapped at work until ungodly hours I wanted to give the maximum benefit of the doubt before escalating this.

My guess: He either got a better offer on the shaft and sold to someone else or he had a good driving day with the shaft and decided to keep it. He tried to cover his A@@ and buy another one but it didn't work out so he kept delaying. Now he spent the money you sent him on something else and for whatever reason cant come up with the money to refund you. Now hes giving you the run around and trying to delay. File a PP claim and be done with it.

Good to hear PP is on it, but it is terrible you had to lose time and energy in dealing with it. Plus you were not able to get the shaft you wanted in time. I'm sure you would have preferred if seller told you much sooner in order to give you time to make alternate arrangements.

Stuff like this makes me wonder sometimes. Selling on BST is a voluntary activity. If you have something for sale, take pictures of it, post with a price. When paid, ship if not same day, next business day (absent disclosed circumstances). How hard is that?

hopefully it is a misunderstanding, but your hypothesis sounds very possible.

The delay for needing to go to the bank and deposit $ to issue a $150 refund seems like the shadiest part of the whole thing.
C'mon player you got AMG money, M1 pre-order money, Tour AD money, but no refund money.

Bingo, what a crock of crap. And who doesnt have it linked to their checking account anyway? Does he really have it linked to a checking account sitting at a bone dry $0, with no means to electronically transfer funds?

Don't even bother with the seller anymore. Stay with the dispute, escalate it when available, and you'll be made whole through PayPal. PayPal will then go after the seller, pull the funds out of his bank account associated with his PayPal, and give him a nice headache if he doesn't sort things out on his own.

Yeah your getting scammed. End of discussion get your money back. This user and his other names need to be banned ASAP

As others have said stick with the PP claim.

This is a hallmark example of why, when someone you purchased from on BST starts making excuses and delaying, it is best to take control of the situation.
"Send tracking with 24 hours or I will file a PP claim."

And, while I can appreciate the idea of not initially outing the seller it really comes down to this; part of the problem or the solution. To not ID a seller in such a case basically says "Here's what happened to me. I want some help if possible but don't want to help prevent others from also being taken by the guy."

Buyer has been refunded. I would never scam anyone for any amount, especially $150.

By the looks of it, you're neither motivated to scam nor to uphold your end of a deal...too many great people on the BST to have to put up with this type of tomfoolery.

I appreciate your position, however I wanted to give some time to correct the situation. Granted, I may be too understanding, but I tend to give fellow golfers a little bit more rope as our game is governed by etiquette and honor. Think of it as a positive prejudice, I tend to give others in our cohort a higher level of initial respect than the general population.

You are correct though, when dealing in future BST situations deadlines will have to be more explicit.
