Good luck ordering from the OEM.

Step 1: pour a glass full of coke
Step 2: drink half of the glass of coke
Step 3: fill glass with jack Daniels
Step 4: sit down at computer with your cocktail and use the Google to find the dozens of relevant threads. After reading, rent Erin Brockovich to discourage your drunken a** from trying to remove the chrome yourself.

You're welcome

Find a plating company that will strip the chrome off of them and then play with them. Problem is, the weights will be all off without the chrome.

I had a set of mizuno MP68s that i took to a plater and they removed the chrome. The weights were off but nothing that tip weighting cant take care of. they were the softest irons i have ever hit

Why? What is the benefit of playing rusty clubs? I am not trying to start an argument because I understand to each his own. Just curious about the benefits.

Highspeed, I was with you on the Jack and coke but Erin Brockovich? Lol

Can have a softer feel, that's it. Used to be thought that rusty clubs could provide more spin, but that has been disproven. Also has a darker look that some players like.

Another thing that's disproven is that removing chrome makes the iron feel softer.

I chose to send a short set of Macgregor VIPs to the gents at Continental Golf. They stripped the chrome and refinished the irons. I have no idea what the weight loss was, but it was nothing I couldn't solve without tip weights. They are now built and my plan is to let them patina during the course of a season. Should be an interesting experience. I highly recommend the aforementioned company as they are a pleasure to work with.

Here are a few pics of our work . . .

Play them, they will get rusty.

Stick with a set of clubs longer then 2 weeks, they will get rusty.

I think Most golfers are drawn to rusty clubs because they think it makes them look like players..

Hexavalent chromium - the carcinogen central to the movie and a byproduct of chrome plating processes.

I have not hit a plated set of Vegas. But I can tell you my raw VM-01s are so soft its ridiculous .... sticky even.... I wont go back to a plated head .... Ive set a set off now to have them stripped....and may send my Razr MBs.... as far as spin I realize that supposedly that myth is debunked as well..BUT ive only hit one set of irons that will shave slivers of cover off the ball...and its my Raw vegas.... literally have to clean sections of ball cover out of the grooves.... Now im not saying that's advantageous , just stating it as fact... Not just some time...like every well struck shot with a short iron... I havet taken any pics but will be happy to if need be... Makes total sense to me if you think of it .... grooves are cut pre plating..once plated the corners of the groves are bound to be "more dull" because of the plating , no?

What a timely thread. I was doing some off season rusting today with

A spray of

16 oz Hydrogen Peroxide

2 oz White Vinegar

1/2 tablespoon salt.

I got the recipe from a thread and comment from member "Andy" July 2012

Instant rust on my 2 of my 900 Tour Action RTG heads. Of course the best rust is from normal play and neglect. ;)

Spray, let dry, then spray some more for desired rust. This was from 5 hours ago.

Buy raw clubs. Play and wait.

Lots of JDM clubs come raw.
Any example?
Here's a link to some Yururi's. The Custom Flat Backs in Raw Black are raw with a black oxide that will come off very easily. Also, Vega, Zestaim, and Gold's Factory offer a raw finish.

Thank you for the 'recipe'.

It is like rust in a bottle on raw heads.

It's going to be hard to resist the temptation to apply this finish when I've got a winter of cold weather and boredom ahead.

Artificially rusting your wedges with salt water etc. is like buying jeans with wear marks and holes. :stop:

I just sent a set of 2013 X Forged heads off to BOS to have them strip the plating off yesterday. Price seems to be a little cheaper than the Iron Factory. Weighed all the heads so I can compare the weights when I get them back. I am doing it because I just like the look of darker, rusty clubs.
