Longest Hitter

Recommended Posts

Now i know alot of juniors exaggerate about distance, but how long was the deepest kid youve ever played with

for me it was at a tournament in may, playing with a kid who at the time was in the top 10 amateurs in canada and wow was he long, he was hitting it 320 every time, carrying my ball by 30 yards. We got to the long drive hole, and i hit one out there about 310 as its downhill, he steps up and says, im going to put something into this, flys it almost all the way down the hill and ends up 380, and the course was wet! craziest thing though was the tournament officials said "oh nothing will beat that" and while we are on the green a kid outdrives him by 2 yards!

Lets hear your stories

I haven't really played with someone who was crazy long like you guys. Probably the longest guy I've played with was htting around 290 each drive.

About a month ago, there was a long drive guy at the range two stall down from me. He had a whole bag of drivers that he was trying. I went over to talk to him and see the clubs. One of them was a driver (can't remember what kind) that had 5* of loft!!! The rest had 5.5-6* and all of them had 48 inch shafts. He was just killing it.

I played with a lad years ago in some junior events who was monstrously long. We were about 17.

It was 1990 or so, and he hit a steel-shafted Burner Plus about 325 all day long - which was at least 40 and sometimes 60 or more yards past me. He drove a 300 yard hole with an all-carry 3 wood to about 6 feet and reached a 540 yard straightaway par 5 with a drive and a 9 iron. His 1 iron went as far as my driver and he was 2 or 3 irons longer than me.

The course wasn't particularly hard and it was a dead calm day. It was also back a few years when 275 was a big hit.

I felt distinctly overwhelmed, despite both shooting the same score as I recall.

i played with a guy a few weeks ago who was hitting long, i could keep up with him for a few holes but he was still past me he hit it a solid 310 with many 340 or so and what was amazing was his three iron utility that he hit like over 270 it was hard to tell the exact ditance because he hit it our and cleared the green and the road that was a good 30 yards behind the green then he went back and hit a 4 iron 245 to pin high.
Played behind a guy in the Am qualifier at Lake Merced in SF and he was in places I've never seen anyone near before. He hit 8 iron into number 18. If any of you are familiar with the course, you know how ridiculous that is. 550 or so with a 2+ club uphill second shot.
damn some of these kiddies are long. Last time I played with a junior that was long was in our QLD Schools Team event in August or whenever it was. I was absolutely cranking it all day and the guy I was playing with was keeping up and was a little longer then I. We were easily knocking it between 240-260m (265-290yds) all day. The other guy was "not hitting the ball that well" but he was freakin carrying our drives. He would have consistently been at least 20m longer then us and occassionally up to 50m longer. I reckon he was hitting it between 260-290m (290-320yds). Not as long as some of the boys your talking about but it was pretty freakin long.

Played witht this guy at the SunCountry Champ tournament. This guy was huge. Big guy! He would just smash his driver. Kinda swung like Gerry From BB Mesquite but not as awkward. Long par 5 flat to slightly up hill i'd say 550. I Hit driver Rescue to just short. He hits driver 8 iron to 3 feet. Freaking riddiculous man. The driver looked like a toothpick!

But this local kid Chad Candelaria. He can put a hurt on the ball. Played with him a handful of times and he would put it greenside, if not on, all the time. He could have been a great player but that temper he had would ALWAYS get the best of him. not a great putter either. but man he could smash a ball, i actually felt sorry for his golf balls!

Yeah both Gipper and Tony just rip it it's INSANE.

One of the best shots I have EVER seen, I think mid-September, I'm playing a few holes with Gipper at Rose Park Golf Course and #3 is a 365 yard par 4. I step up and rip one (for me) down to about 70 yards out, Gipper steps up and FLIES the ball into the center of the green, spinning it back to about 5 feet.

NUTS!

I played with a another junior once that was just massive. I am 14, and 6'3" so I usually tower over the guys in my group.
One tournament, I was being towered over. This guy had just turned 15, and he was massive. At least 6'5" and he easily had 50 pounds on me. I thought that I was a fairly long hitter. I was hitting them out their a clean 295-300, and he was out driving me by a good 30 yards. On a downhill long drive hole, I just swung out of my shoes and crushed it. IT was an okay 347, the big guy steps up and swings just a little faster. 379 yards.

I'm one of the longest hitters in my clubs Junior Section, and I only average about 240...

(Edit: no need to stir the pot, just some friendly conversations about the longest we've played with, not how far we hit it personally.

Vince)

Vince... I never stirred any pot... Never even entered the kitchen... I was simply pointing out that the longest hitter on tour's only 315 avg, and some folk claim 14 year olds are out-driving this...

Distance really means nothing. I have played with guys who pound it out there 330ish. I am at 296 carry on a vector monitor over 100 swings. Sure I can let it rip out around 330 but there is never any need. It is were you are most comfy hitting a ball. I will normally beat the guys I play with even when they pound it by me. So let the guys pound it by you and just watch most of them crumble with other parts of there game. I have learned guys who normally hit it a ton have no soft part in there game ie soft hands for the harder greenside shots. I have also seen a girl who hit is 220 all day long play the whites at a course with me they were about 6500 she shot 68 so distance can be made up.

Well, since the thread is about some of the longest kids you have played with, *cough*not the importance of distance in your game*cough* i have a story to tell I geuss. For starters I am playing in a tournament with a kid who was my age, 15, class of '11, freshman. He had been hitting the ball long all day, quite a bit longer than most of our group. But i didn't think he was hitting it 300+. But then we got to a 307 yard par 4. It was flat, maybe uphill a foot or two. Wind was a non factor, not really helping us. Some of the other kids in the group and I in the group are chatting about pulling driver and maybe rolling one up. This kid pulls 4 wood and blasts it 8 feet to the right of the pin.

I went to the range the other day and saw this kid there. He was hitting some good shots but hitting some really bad ones, then he did something i guess and started killing the ball. He was hitting a 4 iron, and flying it like 225-230 with range balls in sub 30 degree weather. he then hit his driver and flew it like 30 feet into the ball net which is 300 to the bottom. real skinny kid too, pretty amazing.
