Why Do I Even Try..... Can't Get Away From The Nike B2-01

I keep trying to knock this thing out of the bag..

Don't think it's really going to happen..

As I've posted in other threads... I normally don't care for an insert in my putters..

But this putter has been the easiest I have ever had for alignment and lag..

It lead me to my 1st Club Championship last season, with the only player in the field to not card a D.Bogey or worse..

*FWIW* 68-78-75 as Sat & Sun yielded 25-almost 40 MPH wind gusts)

Have come to REALLY like darker finishes on my flatsticks, and have had absolutely NO PROBLEMS with the finish..

EASILY 100 rounds on it, and no chipping, flaking, etc etc..

Playing it at the stock 35" (lighter head) SS 2.0, with 60g Tour Lock, which works for me as a shorter CB putter..

Don't know why I keep trying to replace it with "nicer" putters, I'm just a fool I guess...

I will say, the OEM HC is CRAP, but I use my 2015 US Open AM&E anyway..

I am however, VERY excited to see the 2016 NIKE Putter line...

Looks as if they are going to go away with the red outline, replacing with blue, and must say... It looks very attractive...

Am I one of the last to get this beauty on it's release, & still be playing it!!??

I could not agree more! I have a Scotty Newport that I love and I am really trying to stick with this year! I go into my local golf store and for some reason I ALWAYS pick that putter up and give it a spin! It's a little light but I think that's what makes it nice to roll and control is nice. I think the face is a combination of a odyssey white and standard Newport, not too soft but not to firm.

The nicest thing about the putter is its price tag!

Question is....will I pull the trigger one day?

I'll never get rid of mine. Perfect balance between it and my Rory so I can switch depending on if I feel like having an insert or not that day. Best putter for the price out there!

Is the insert firmer than that in a Versa?

I have never tried the Versa to compare to...

I've read MANY conflicting opinions on the feel of the insert...

Myself, I think the only way to describe it is soft, yet predictable...

    If that makes sense...

Definitely firmer than my old PT-82

I would say its very comparable, the thing that I can say about it is if you miss with it you know you didn't hit it on the sweet spot.

I like the shape of the Nike B2-01. It is definitely the closest in shape to a DH89/009/006 among any putter under $200.

Agree with this. I have a versa and b2 and they have similar feels. When the b2 isn't struck well, you do know it but I still get a nice roll anyways.

I play a lot of golf in my area (E.Washington)

Not only at my own club, but in many Pro-Ams, invitationals, fund raisers, skins games.. etc etc..

And I have yet to see anyone else around playing this release of putters, let alone the B2-01...

Was this line of flatsticks overlooked??

I don't feel that Nike was ever really able command a lot of attention when it came to their putters. A lot of their prior releases were panned in reviews and aesthetically they came off a little cheap looking or too techy.

The Method series is a step in the right direction and has boosted their reputation to some extent, although the main force behind this is probably due to Rory's switch to that line and the release of the 006.

I really like the headshape have but for the life of me I don't understand why Nike offers a putter with sole weights that aren't adjustable?

Was told directly by Nike that the weights are "cemented" in and can not be changed out. Thanks to an awesome member I got my hands on a wrench and thinking it was just epoxy or loctite holding the weights in, I tried heating the weights with a heat gun. The **** things didn't budge one mm.

I don't know what the heck they could have used that couldn't be heated up to remove the weights. I guess I'm going to have to try and find a heavier headed version and restart it.

This is EXACTLY what held me back for years...

They have had several putters that I liked, but couldn't choke down the fact they were Nike...

And now look at me... TWO Nike clubs in the bag...

I just ordered one, so it's nice to read this here!

Quick question - is it possible to get rid of the red in the grooves? Can't tell from the pictures if it's paint fill or the actual material that's red? Doesn't really matter much, but would be an added bonus if I could murder it out a little.

I don't believe removing the color is an option....

Looks to me to be the color of the insert material

The insert is actually two parts of resin (RZN) plastic fused together. You can't remove the red color from it.

Thanks for the replies guys! That's no problem, I'll get used to the red. Computer says it should be here on thursday, I'm really excited about it! Will be another two weeks before I get to travel to warmer weather and try it out though.

If you don't like the red in the insert, or if you just want a heavier head, you could always go with copper!

  • MaximilianMaximilian Members Posts: 1,415 ✭✭✭✭✭✭
That looks pretty awesome Josh! I'm not interested in heavier though, so not for me. Purely out of curiosity, did you make the insert yourself, or have some particular company/person make it for you? Nike doesn't offer these as a custom option I suspect?

Love this copper insert Josh. Who did the putter refinishing/copper insert for you if I may ask? I have had BOS golf do some putter refinishing on my scotty prior, but I like the price point of this B201 and am looking into refinishing one to look like Rory's new putter. Thanks in advance.

I purchased the insert from a seller on eBay. It is high quality and looks awesome. Very subtle mill marks on it too.

I've been playing the M5-12 since it was released last year (also posted a thread about it on here) and it's been the best putter I've ever had. Great feel but most importantly it's so easy to line up and keep on line. The roll is incredible as well.

I really believe if this putter was something other than Nike it would get more press.

    Pull the trigger...!!!

I know everyone is different, but the B2-01 has been a game changer for me on the greens...

Mind you, I play to about scratch in peak season, and putting is one of my strengths....

But it seems I'm constantly amazed on how well I've putted since bagging this thing!!

    FWIW....

I did change over early with the anchor ban...

Had a Golo Mid that I was absolutely LIGHTS OUT with.. (Still gripe about this STUPID rule change)

But the B2-01 made it a VERY comfortable conversion back to a standard length...

I also play my putters at about 32.5"-33"... So leaving at 35" & throwing a Tour Lock weight in there really helped me....

Bring this back from the dead...

So, I've been thru quite a few putters over the years...

Used an X7M for a long time, Currently have been using an Odyssey 2-ball...

But locked in my gun safe... Just hanging out...

    The old B2-01...

Rolled it on the mat for about 20 minutes...

I think it's going to go back in the bag...

    It just rolls so well...

Time to reintroduce my game to an old friend...

Have the original methods (001 and an Oven Proto blade), the Method matter m4-12 and the origin b2-01 (naked). Still game them sometimes along with a vapor pro iron set.

I also dabbed into their iron world for a short time..

Bagged the Vapor Fly Pro's for about a month...

But they just couldn't knock the i20's out of the bag..

Love mine. It’s the Origin b2-01. Has the look and feel I want. Very consistent putter. I’m not looking to replace anytime soon and that’s a bold statement from me. It has all the tech like rife grooves, odyssey insert and Cameron weights combined with look of a dh89 or 009. Great rolling putter.
