Gainey Ranch CC Membership - Scottsdale

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I recently moved to the Scottsdale area and I am considering joining Gainey Ranch which is located ~3 miles from my house. I played the course (Ayollo/Lakes) two weekends ago and thought the course was in great shape.

Is anyone a member or know a member of the course that I can talk to or get their opinion on weather it is worth it or not? I play 1-2 times a week and like to practice about once a week. I'm a 9 handicap and looking to join a club that has an active men's club with tournament events. Below are my main concerns about joining the club.

1. How often are there club events (summer included).

2. Are the greens in good shape in the summer?

3. Earliest/latest tee times available (thinking either before work/after work)

4. Carts included? I noticed allot of courses are charging a cart fee with their memberships which seems weird to me.

5. How much is it for guests to play?

6. Can guests play at the reciprocal courses around the US?

7. What are the reciprocal courses in the area?

any input/knowledge would be very helpful!!!!

Thanks.

I think this is a Club Corp course so I think Anthem and Seville, possibly a few others are reciprocal with no greens fees. As far a reciprocal with other private courses, many in the local area can be arranged through your pro-shop and for a guest fee. I think you can take guests with you to those reciprocal courses for the normal guest fee. Cart fees are typical for most private clubs most let you pay annualy or per use basis. Most private clubs here in the valley have quite good mends clubs with weekly events year round (more players in winter). Courses vary on tee times. If you are looking at anything over 400 members tee times in the winter will be tight, summer it is wide open by 9:30 am, winter afternoons will be light enough for you to walk on and play most weekdays. As far as specific fees the course could give you a decent idea on guest rates.

There are so many better clubs around, even if you like the green belt style over desert. I have no idea what they are charging these days but it used to be fairly expensive for mediocre conditions most of the time. I would strongly encourage you to try Phoenix Country Club, Arizona Country Club and Paradise Valley Country Club first before you commit to Gainey if you want to stay in that immediate area. Yes, they are all a bit further away but you'll likely to find them all to be better as well.

Paradise Valley and Arizona CC really less expensive than Gainey Ranch? Looks pretty expensive.

Oh, I'm not sure. Send them a note and they'll tell you. I don't know what Gainey is currently charging, just know it used to be high for the quality of the course and amenities. AZ was definitely very cheap a couple of years ago. I'm just saying, check a few more places before committing.

Arizona is now 80 grand in and the dues are 1,200 a month.

Wow, that's amazing as they were giving away memberships a couple of years ago from what I heard. I know one of their main competitors for members is Phoenix Country Club and it is less than $25k to join and less than $800/month. PCC is also a better golf course. Shocked that anyone would join ACC for $80 in this market.

Arizona is the only one that I know of that has a waiting list as well. Paradise Valley might but I'm not sure. I'm a member at Mesa country club. I'm not there very often since we live in LA but I prefer the golf course, drinking, gambling, and banter much better over there. I started at Phoenix cc but I always liked a to have a game and there just weren't as many there.

Thanks for all the help guys. I think overall cost/benefit from the courses I've played seems like Gainey is the winner. Young executive membership has no initiation and 450/month. Kinda hard to beat. I'm going to play a few other courses like Anthem, but Phoenix & Paradise wouldn't even invite me out to play the course which I thought was weird.

Need someone to help you keep your Mesa membership warm? I could certainly show up on your behalf to make sure you are enjoying the course!

I love the course layout at Mesa CC. It has so much character without being over the top.
